I really like playing tanks, I am new to fifth but not to the hobby. Anyway, in a 2000 point army( this is apparently the "norm" at my lgs) I was thinking of adding some razorbacks with twinlinked assault cannons and possibly flamers. I was planning on making a purchase of 3 razorbacks and I had found a site that sold a twinlinked Asscannon. I just wanted to opinions on viability of them. It seems with the new rules that vehicles are a little bit tougher.

I thought these may be nice compliments as I am playing a mobile force with Assault Marines and Khan ( specifically white scars).

Just wanted some opinions that is pretty much it, ideally I would just have 3 or 4 in my army cheap all around good tanks. I had plans on making a more mobile force and thought this would be a nice compliment as they would have the ability to outflank.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I have a five Razorback army from 4th edition, four with heavy bolters and one with an overpriced lascannon, for a bit of a change.

Now with 5th the 40pt basic Razorback is so cheap as to be a competative. After all with combat squads you can also do a 'half rush' leaving the heavy weapons behind; though that is just an option and not the only reason to take them. I like to have a 40pt 'turret' to go with my tactical squads, now you get the excuse to remain mobile extra at a new lower price. There is a lot to like for Razorbacks and Drop Pods both, it is the Rhino that is lagging behind.

However the gap between heavy bolters and other weapons has widened. Lascannon and assault cannon are both quality guns, but are both highly priced. If you really need those shots expect your opponent do deny them to you. Armour 11 is a farce, it only really becomes viable if you have a lot of it, and for that you need a low price.

For completeness: I welcome the reinclusion of las/plas Razorbacks, as it validates the old 2nd edition models for play. Heavy flamers are horrible, as you will have them on an unsurvivable chassis. Admittedly if you want to rush you will close anyway, but with massed Razorbacks you cannot afford multiples of +25pts.

Heavy bolters, every time.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I agree with Orlanth. Anytime you're spamming armor quantity is more important than quality. Think of it like this, you can have three heavy bolter razorbacks or two assault cannon razorbacks for pretty much the same number of points.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

I agree with the current consensus, trasnport spam is just that SPAM, its not the kind of thing that you'd serve at the last supper, but it comes in quantity, and someone much smarter than I am once said "quantity is its own kind of quality." If you have Khan, and are going for white scars, I would then get lots of assault marines to hide behind the HB razorbacks until they get into charge range.

HB razor backs FTW. 40 points is nothing. I'm sorry I plastic glued my Rhino top hatches down.

So having a squad such as this would be better

10 man tactical w/
Meltagun, Lascannon
Sergeant with powerweapon

Razorback w/ Heavy bolters.

Another one I had would it be worth buying the Devastator squad this?

I really like devastators, and it is NOT because I'm using their big guns to compensate for anything....

Moving right along.

Your Devies should either be Las, Plas, or missile squads in order to provide anti anti armour fire.

The only real weakness of Razor back spam is that unless you can suppress the anti tank fire of your opponent, you'll have your army coming in piece miel... meal?... HOW DO YOU SPELL THAT!!!!??

The solution is getting 3 LR and having them provide cover for your spiky backs.

I guess mix and matching weapons is not a option.

I think a basic Librarian, with the Veil power and maybe the 5+ invul save power is a must, just as a hoodbearer.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).
