Infiltrating Moblot

Here's my Southern Republican Army for the new edition of Heavy Gear.
I managed to pull some older models out of the local bargain bins, and ordered a few of the newer boxed sets for my SRA. I've got a Southern Milicia contingent on it's way as well, using the older HG models to represent mothballed or decomissioned Gears from the War of the Alliance being pressed back into service by the South's draconian Military.
One of my GP Squads. The Squad Leader has been upgraded to ride in an older Iguana model to forward observe for the Naga and Saggitarius with his Target Designator.
This is some of my Infantry. Mostly decked out with Anti Gear Rifles to take advantage of range and accuracy.
My Recon Squad with the group leader upgraded to have a Sattellite Uplink and enchanced Electronic Warfare Suite. The Mamba is also there as an alternate.
A Black Mamba and older King Cobra model from my Strike Squad. Sadly the army commander has to ride in an Iguana or Mamba in games over 750 TV... I'd love for him to ride in the big old King Cobra.
These are my Saggitarius and my Naga Strider from my Strider Corps. The GP and Recon Iguanas Forward observe for these guys to lay down Barrages and Anti Tank Missiles.
So there's the first installment in my South army. My Milicia is next!

Very nice!
Also Dream Pod 9 has a newer and hopefully better store up for anyone interested... They're doing some deals on shipping right now.
(Disclaimer: I'm helping with the tech end of their web site. No, I'm not paid at all if there's more sales.)

Dude, those are sweet! You should definitely cross-post in the modeling forum, you'd probably get a lot more hits!
Anyway, I really dig the camo. What scale are the infantry? 10mm?

10mm is mostly correct (or 1/144 to be more exact). I think there's a slight difference between the two scales, but its minor.

Those look just awesome! Really makes me wish more people got in Heavy Gear around here (I have a tiny Northern Force, like two squads of Gears). When it started to pique my group's interest DP9 were just changing scales and the models just struck us as being stupidly expensive, so it caused pretty much everyone to drop it immediately.

You should definitely get these up in an army profile as well ^_^. The more people see mech games, the more they want to play mech games!

I've posted non-GW stuff in the modelling forum in the past and not often gotten any discussions at all (Infinity, Helldorado, etc), so I didn't bother this time.
And what's an army profile???

Some really nice paint jobs! I think I'm doing 750 pts of ESE* and I need to figure out what I want to do for paint on them. Might try a jungle-ish camo after seeing these and a few others.
*ESE, or Eastern Sun Emirates, is a weird feudal subset of the Heavy Gear Southern Territories forces. They get some options to take lots of anti-infantry machine guns on their vehicles as they're often used to put down revolts along with access to certain designs that are made locally, but the really interesting feature of the list is that the ESE can have ties with various other factions representing each Emire (read: local lord) making alliances with different big boys. I'm thinking of ties to Peace River, the setting's biggest independent arms dealer, to get access to the cool new Coyote Tankstriders.

Your point being? The average gear is as small or smaller than a trooper model from nearly any other gaming system, yet costs about 8-10 bucks. Not the best value for the size and detail.

Well, I won't argue the Gear minis aren't expensive, but some points to ponder:
As a point of comparison most base Gear trooper-level models are around $9. Some of the bigger heavy stuff is $18 for a model that is essentially an 'oversized' trooper. Tanks and Striders (the big special units) may be more, and you can sometimes save a bit by buying the squad packs. Most come with a few extra parts for doing the more common special configurations or similar. (Note: the new dp9 online store has component pics of most models now.) Size-wise, they're usually similar to a bulky 25mm, I think.
(Priced from GW Online Store) Space Marines can be had for roughly $3.50/marine if bought in boxes of 10. Spare parts included are pretty good, and keep in mind that these are one of the best deals in gaming as GW can afford to really mass-produce them.
(Priced from GW Online Store) Sisters of Battle are around $4. Parts are minimal: these are essentially one main body plus the backpack (and base, of course). Some of the special/heavy weapon troopers are 2 part. I love these minis, particularly the older ones (some of the C:WH sculpts are a bit off in my opinion) and think they're a good deal despite being more expensive for cheaper minis. Note that as 3-packs, they're $5 apiece.
(Priced from the War Store)Most of the Reaper C.A.V minis seem to be $12.00 list or $9.00 with War Store pricing. I haven't gotten any hands-on experience with these so i can't comment on modeling but they look like a good comparison as far as 'gaming niche'.
(War Store again)A lot of the Iron Wind Metals Battletech minis seem to range from $7-15 list. Last time I saw these sculpts they weren't too impressive. Minimal pieces, but good quality.
(War Store once more. They're good guys.)A lot of the War Machine Warjacks seem to be listed at $15 and up. A lot of the humanoid characters seem to be around $5 for a 'trooper' or more for a hero-type. In my brief experience these are excellent quality castings and have some, but not a lot, of east customization potential.
(War Store yet again.) Flames of War infantry looks to be maybe $.50-$1.00 a model, but they're 15mm and used in squads. The tanks are a good deal, as many are under $10 a model with vehicles in similar territory although often slightly more expensive.
So anyway, yes, they're expensive but at very similar prices to competitors. Keep in mind that from what I've read a Heavy Gear Blitz game would be similar to a tank-focused FoW game: a moderate amount of vehicles with support from infantry and other elements.
(Disclaimer: I'm helping DP9 out with their web site and online store.)

Please forgive the extreme necroscription.
I need to know the top-height of the heads of the mechs. I play hasslefree Grymn which are 22mm. Would DP9 mechs fit as either a battlesuit style mech piloted from the torso or as powered armour?
cheers.

They're about the size of a Space Marine... maybe a bit bigger. Probably a bit small for battlesuits for Grymm. The high performance or fire support gears (Mambas, Jaguars or Grizzlies and Cobras) might be big enough.
Sorry for the busted links above... I moved my galleries around on Photobucket. All the pics can still be found here.
