Is it me or are the CSM metal Raptors horribly produced? I've had a box of them which I've never gotten to until now, maybe it was a bad run but my primary issue has been massive amounts of extra metal between parts of the model. Case in point: Each of the models foot, the one without flame on it, had the talons fused together with a chunk of metal. Fortunately I own a corded dremel and a metal carbide bit for these things so I made short work of the problem.

I've also noticed the newer SoB, ones obviously modified from existing SoB models, are very sloppy. The bolter on the Simulacrum Imperialis model is concave looking on all the ones I have. While the original Banner bearer is nicely detailed and flat. There looks to be a loss of detail in these models as well, they're not as 'sharp' looking.

Anyone else seeing this on other metal figures from GW or is it just my luck?

personally i try and stay away from the medal minis. never liked them, there a pain to modify, and yea i had a few metal chaos minis before that had gobs of extra slag and whatnot all over them, more then normal anyways. but thats me i prefer the plastic

Yeah, Me too. My raptors are regular chaos marines with the plastic jump packs and some extra icons and trophy rack parts to make them look extra spiky. I didn't even put them into flying poses. Still working on a plan for some acceptable plastic obliterators.

I am building a DA army, so I purchased a bunch of the DA terminators. All of them are significantly smaller than the plastic models. They also had serious casting issues. What a waste of money. I only purchase the plastic terminators now.

Personally i hate most metal models are they are hard to modify, some put together and paint. I wish they did everything in plastic, but some metal models are good, such as the autarchs and grey knights in my opinion

I think Rymafyr forgot to mention another thing - the flame on the champion is extremely fragile - in fact my one snapped after a week! I wish they made a plastic DP...

I've noticed it too. Metal models used to be good, now there sloppy. Have just painted my techmarine (servo harness) and it's sloppy. The casting isn't all that bad but the detail is lazy. e.g. the cog symbols have 8 cogs rather than 12. They manage to get it right on the plastics...you'd think they'd make sure the metals are correct with the price of them these days....it looks fine onm it's own but looks a bit out of place lined up with the other chaps with 12 coggy bits!

Ever notice that some metal minis don't fit together that well either? Like the CSM Havocs with the Reaper Autocannon. Theres a large gap on one of the arms thats suppose to attach to the body.

That's the mold maker's fault.
Some models are sculpted in such a way that certain pieces won't fit very well into the mold without complicating the mold. What they'll do is make the mold so that you have to twist or bend the metal piece into its INTENDED position for it to fit right.

Most annoying case of this I ever had was the axe on the old Chainmail Ogre mercenery. ::eye roll:: I had to TWIST the axe haft BETWEEN the hands to get them to line up right... on all 3 of the models I assembled.

Well, the games day miniature with the thunder hammer just didn't fit together at all. The arms refuse to stick, probably because there's no contact points.

I know GW is trying to move everything over to plastics and those do just keep getting better. I just don't understand why the metal minis have gotten worse when they were really nice productions years ago.

My worst experience with metal minis was when I got a krootox when Tau were first out, that thing had about 2 mm square of contact area between the two body halves and I just didn't have the tools I needed to make it work back then. I actually complained to GW it was so bad and they sent me another that was just as useless to me, matter of fact I think I still have those guys sitting in thier blisters somewhere, might finally put them together.

That said, most metals used to be pretty good and I haven't gotten one in a while, I never did like to order stuff in blisters from GW direct though, I figured if they are going to package them so that I can see the contents I may as well take advantage.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

The main contributor to bad castings is that they have quit making the molds so their getting reused, beyond the recommended number of castings before remaking.

I would also assume that since they're in a 'cost cutting' mode, they're letting their standards for a bad casting down. Which means letting them go out the door as product.
