Okay so now in 5th edition how does the neural schredder role damage results against a vehicle?
Do you roll a D3 then minus 2 for the glancing hit then add one back in because of the AP1? So in essence the best roll you can get is a 2?

Yes. 1d3-1. A roll of 1-4 is a 1, and 5-6 is a 2. Crew Shaken, or Crew Stunned.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

1-2 is a 1, 3-6 is a 2.
Roll a 3 or 4 & it equals 2. Two minus 2 equals zero... but you can't go below ONE, so you stop at one.... then add in your 1 and you're at 2.
