Subject: Best way to field Wraithguard?

Well Im considering a footslogging army and would like to know what people think of Wraithguard?
Some of my thoughts:
10 with a warlock as a troops choice seem like a solid tarpit in conjunction with harlies and screening guardians.
But it does restrict what you can fire those "awesome" one-shot guns at before combat. Further you are committed essentially to taking a 400pt unit. At 1500pts which is standard where i live that is almost a third of your points. Seems way to much really.
So perhaps, smaller units? I know some favour 3 man units. i might go a bit bigger, but not much. That would seem to give the flexibility you need with the wraithcannons. They should put some serious hurt into MC's and tanks (I think 10 is pure overkill). It also gives you tarpit without the ability of the enemy to attack your tarpit with one unit and then, after charge reactions, charge another unit that you didn't want charged (like the harlies). Also, if you are running a solid foot contingent, you should be able to upgrade a lock in a guardian unit to spirit seer and get away with not attaching locks to the wraithguard.
Alternatively, in a wave serpent? I think the idea is laughable. The only reason for putting 5 of them in a serpent with a warlock instead of 5 dragons is that they should still be around after they have disembarked and your opponents gets to have a go at killing them. The reasons against are just overwhelming. They cost x2 the price. They suffer from wraithsight. They arn't as effective as dragons against Tanks or TMC. The list goes on...

The 10 man troop choice is the way to go. Make sure they get a conceal warlock and a fortune farseer and they are a rock solid center to your army. With the quin backup, they will remain dangerous just about all the time and you'll be able to fire their guns more than once. If you use them to steam roll objectives, you can have guardians following up behind them to stay on objectives once you've cleared them of enemies.

Well, I'd take a 10 men squad accompanied by a Warlock with enhance, a Farseer with fortune, and a counter-strike unit like Harlies. Yes, enhance as the squad should get a 4+ cover save if maneuvered well.

If you can afford ten of them, that is.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

Wraithguard are great for holding objectives if you take a couple of 10 corpse units as Troops, freeing up Elite spots for Aspect Warriors such as Fire Dragons.

That is the problem with them, but this wasn't so much a thread on how to get them as it was how to use them.

I like the idea of a 3 man squad for some anti-Land Raider insurance at your front line.
Putting them in a Wave Serpent you are just asking for it, I think.
I have 10. I am looking at taking them in 'Ard Boyz as 2x 5+1 man, each with their own Conceal. Thing is I will be strapped for models and taking 3 big Concealed Guardian squads and a squad of Dire Avengers too, all marching. I might give one or two Guardian squads Embolden and put them behind the others.
But they give you something (dangerous anti-tank fire), especially foot-slogging; you just have to manouver them properly. That, and there are easier units to get your points worth out of.
