Hi all,
I posted some trial BA army lists in the list forum, but haven't gotten much feedback yet, so I'm coming here with some specific questions. As a non-SM Codex Marine army, what are the best equipment options for things like sergeants and my Honor Guard? Far as I can tell, a Standard is mostly useless, but I don't know anymore what's best for things like weapon choices for squads or characters... I've been told to just take Lemartes for a Chaplain, but I'm not sure how to kit other stuff. I'm trying to make a mostly CC army with stuff like a DP-ing Furioso (w/ Heavy Flamer) and assault squads, with firebase support from a tac squad, and in larger games a Scout squad.

I have not found Dreds to be that great in assault. I do love vet assault squads. Generally I think getting as many jumppacks on the table as possible then throwing in some heavyweapons youre good to go. The caveat is that vet assault squads are really expensive.

YMMV on the Dread, I might be using him wrong, but I just am not a fan.

Fancy demons?

If your using BA dreads make them Venerable Death Company Furiosos with Hvy Flamer and Extra Armour. It may me 165pts but they are well worth it when you can get between 5-7 Str 10 I4 attacks on the charge (I5 if Corbulo is nearby). These bad boys will terrorize your opponent.
10 man Scout Squads equipped with Sniper Rifles and a ML are particularly useful against monstrous creatures like Tyrants, Carnifex, Wraithlords, Avatars etc.

i took power fists and terminator honors for my tac sgts. thats way even if they get assaulted by high-toughness units or walkers they still stand a chance

Dante and Corbulo are the best two HQ choices as they bring the best abilities to the army as a whole:

Dante -
Preferred Enemy
Drops opponent's units WS by -1
Rites of Battle

Corbulo:
Furious Charge
Exsanguinator

Dante is great for leading a unit of VAS or HG. Corbulo should ride in a rhino with the DC, plus he can control their Black Rage.

BA can take assault Marines as a troop choice plus they work well with Dante and Corbulo closeby.

The Baal predator with heavy bolter sponsons is a great tank and has over charged engines (OCE) as do BA rhinos.

The Furioso dreadnaught with the venerable upgrade mounted in a drop pod is another strong unit for close combat.

I prefer VAS over HG since you can take more than five per squad. The HG are very fluffy though and have some good options such as the apothecary.
