Okay, here's the idea. When a Drop Pod deep strikes, it counts as moving at cruising speed, right? That means that if its passenger doesn't disembark, then its passenger cannot fire any of its weapons.

So the Drop Pod lands, its passenger Dreadnought disembarks, and starts shooting.

What occurred to me was to have the Dreadnought re-embark on the Drop Pod if it survives the retaliatory fire. Once inside the Drop Pod it could shoot out, but the Drop Pod would have to be destroyed before the Dreadnought had to move out.

Okay, so if the Pod is Shaken or Stunned, the Dreadnought would need to disembark to shoot, and it would have to disembark if the Drop Pod was destroyed, but it wouldn't be pinned and it would just shrug off the S4 AP- hit.

I don't think this is restricted to Dreadnoughts, it might work for a Thunderfire Cannon too.

Your thoughts, O Dakka?

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

I was unaware that you could re-enter the drop pod.

If you can, then It seems like an obvious strategy

Drop Pod rules say that you cannot embark after landing. Unless you mean just having the Dread just walk inside the open space that is the Drop Pod and not actually "embark" to the Pod. Problem with that is you can't end your turn on top of another model, even your own unless it is a destroyed vehicle.

Funny, I just started a thread in the questions forum about vehicles counting as cruising speed when deep striking. My thought is that the Dread is not deep striking, the Drop Pod is. So the Pod can't shoot when it lands, but the passengers can.

There is a place beneath those ancient ruins in the moor…

Hmmm, that might explain a thing or two (such as why I've never seen anyone re-embark their Drop Pods...).

That WOULD be illuminating...

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
