Ok, i picked up the new SM codex yeasterday, wanting to build a White Scar themed army.

So i sat down and worked out my basic line of 1 HQ 2 Troops.

HQ
Kor'sarro Khan
Moondrakken
205 PTS

Troops
Bike Squad - 5 Bikes
2 Plasma Guns, 2 Bolt Pistols, Combi Plasma for the Sergeant
180PTS

Troops
Bike Squad - 5 Bikes 1 Attack Bike
2 Meltagun, 3 Bolt Pistols, Attack Bike w/ Multi-Melta
210PTS

Troops
Tactical Squad - 10 Marines
Flamer and Missile Launcher
Drop Pod
205 PTS

Troops
Tactical Squad - 10 Marines
Flamer and Missile Launcher
Rhino
205 PTS

Now if i am correct that is 1005 points. Now the question is, what to add? I was thinking Scout Bikes, Speeders with Meltas, Command Squad on bike and if needing heavy weapons, a lascannon pred or 2? I do want to try to keep it as mobile as possible though.

if your doing the white scars thing, you should spam maxed out bike squads. 8 bikes, 1 attack bike w/ multi melta. the nice thing about these bike squads, is with a melta gun, the attack bike, and either a powerfist or melta bomb, they can fulfill any battle feild role. maybe a vindie, or a thunderfire cannon, would be good support, but i would say minimum 4 bike squads. just my take, good luck.

Hi Im Dr.Zaius and I a new player as well. I posted above my 1500 point list under newbie. For what it is worth I think a command squad is critical to exploit the special characters special ability of hit and run. I also just learned that razorbacks can be purchased for tac squads which are full strength and then divided in order to exploit the khans special deployment tactic.
Send me a note and maybe we can exchange information or tactics/ how our forces worked.

I'm not exactly new to 40k, just new to marines. I normally play chaos daemons. So i was looking for input on building a good White Scar army for myself and then work on a Salamanders army for my brother (he likes the idea of the thunderfire cannon).

I thought about the Thunderfire cannon but it seems overpriced for a one shot and your gone piece of artilllery. I know White Scars are hard up to win in the new rules because of the Horde armies but it is fun to try.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

It looks like a good list, but I think that the sarge in the attack bikeless squad should have a power weapon.

I play (homegrown chapter)
Win 8
Draw1
Loss1

Follow the word of the Turtle Pie. Bathe your soul in its holy warmth and partake in its delicious redemption. Let not the temptation of Lesser desserts divert you, for All is Pie, and Turtle is All

That is my basic core selection, i was wondering about the last 700 odd points on what i should put into the army.

What would be the best bikes? SM Bikes or DA Ravenwing bikes?

For the cost of one of those bike squads you and working out some points you can probably add a Command Squad with power weapons.

Taking advantage of Khans furious charge is probably the best thing

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I was planning on using that The reason i asked about the DA bikes is i can get the ravenwing box set for most of my bikes

Troop
Tactical Squad 10 Men
Flamer, Missile Launcher, Power Fist
Razorback - Lascannon and Twin-linked Plasma gun

(Combat Squad so the flamer and commander in Razorback and missile squad is deployed in some terrain)

The tactical Squads don't really fit in with a bike army.

I'd beef up the Bike squads to 8 bikes and add Attack Bike squadrons and Scout Bike squadrons.
The Cmd squad should include an Apothecarius.
Landspeeders are a bit out of place as are Rhino and Razorback squads.

I'd replace the Chaplain by an Attack Bike squadron: 3 Attack Bikes with multimelta.
The rest looks very good.

Well, you could always proxy. Use WHFB cavalry models or something. Since money is tight, that's probably the best way to playtest.

that would work if A) i had a WHFB army with cavalry models or B) If i could borrow someones with enough cavalry models. Unfortunately at my LGS no one has more then 9 cavalry models, and there are only 2 with them, and im not on good terms with one of them
