Subject: New codex - Ultramarines 1,500 pts - new list at the bottom!

Tower of Power

Got the new codex on day of release and sorted out myself a new list. A few things I might change, like drop the plasma cannon possibly the multimelta or swap things around but I'm not sure yet.
HQ
1 x Captain Sicarius.
1 x Command Squad - all with CCW and bolt pistols, vet sgt w/ power fist.
1 x Razorback w/ twin linked bolters.
Troops
10 x Space Marines - plasma gun, plasma cannon - sgt w/ CCW & bolt pistol
10 x Space Marines - plasma gun - sgt w/ ccw & plasma pistol
10 x Space Marines - multimelta, meltagun - sgt w/ ccw & bolt pistol
Fast Attack
10 x Vanguard Veterans - 1 x plasma pistol - sgt w/ plasma pistol & power fist.
Heavy Support
5 x Devastators - 2 x rocket launchers, 2 x lascannons - sgt w/ bolter & ccw.
1 x Vindicator
I may drop the plasma cannon as mentioned above and move the meltagun to replace it so that squad can get into range. The multmelta squad can hang back and still use there bolters and the multimelta within 24".
This list will be then expanded to 2,000 points with:
1 x Librarian - terminator armour (haven't decided on powers yet)
5 x Terminators - heavy flamer
1 x Predator - heavy bolters
3 x Bikers
Comments appreciated.

Ok here's the updated list.
HQ
1 x Captain Sicarius.
Troops
10 x Space Marines - plasma gun, plasma cannon - sgt w/ CCW & bolt pistol
10 x Space Marines - plasma gun, meltagun - sgt w/ ccw & plasma pistol
10 x Space Marines - multimelta - sgt w/ ccw & bolt pistol
Fast Attack
10 x Assault Squad - 1 x plasma pistol - sgt w/ plasma pistol & power fist.
9 x Assault Squad - dropped jump packs for drop pod or rhino
Heavy Support
7 x Devastators - 2 x rocket launchers, 2 x lascannons - sgt w/ bolter & ccw.
1 x Vindicator
Ok with the meltagun with the plasma gun they can now move into range and rapid fire, while the multimelta squad can stay at range and the melta isn't wasted. I'm going to keep the plasma cannon for the time been as 5 pts for it is a steal and it is useful.
Sicarius I'm going to put with the 9 assault marines. I may use a drop pod so they can deep strike into assault without any movement, or a rhino. Not sure yet. Drop pod would be something different. Sicarius I'm keeping for the time being, see how it goes.
The assault squad with jump packs I'II probably deep strike along with them for support. I may loose the packs on them and swap with a drop pod so both fall together. Any suggestions on that?
The dev's I've expanded to 7, adding an extra 3 marines to take fire power - not a lot, but at least some extra. They will support the vindicator from a distance.
If I do drop Sicarius his spare points I'II fill with the predator
This list will be then expanded to 2,000 points with:
5 x Terminators - heavy flamer
10 x Sternguard Veterans
1 x Predator - heavy bolters
1 x extra devastator
The terminators will deep strike and assist the assault squads with Sicarius. I wanted another unit of troops, though with 200 points spare though I'd use the new Sternguard - the variation in ammo is just too good not to use and only an extra 30 points for the unit. The extra dev is just the last 16 point filler and the predator can provide support to the dev's, vindicator, or troops when foot slogging it.

Well, Smurfs led by Sicarius makes sense.
But footslogging is a slow way to die. I'd give the Tacticals Rhinos or Razorbacks and let the Assault Marines advance behind the transports. They could be accompanied by the Vindicator while the Dev squad gives cover fire. Sounds like a concept?

Drop one devastator, lose the lascannons for two more missile launchers and then mount them up in a base razorback...
Lose 1 marine... add a TL heavybolter... sounds like a fire support unit to me.

Having only one transport is not fun... even if it's a landraider, especially if its a razorback. Take lots of transports or none, but if you take none, then for the love of god don't move. sit, shoot, and try to take another objective.

wuestenfux - I plan to use drop pods for the assault marines to they get straight into combat. The vindicator idea is what I do currently and works well, especially with the dev's behind
DAaddict - I can keep all the dev's at range as they can shoot 48", I don't see the point in givnig them transport when majority of things will be in range already.
Shrike79 - As in my new list I've dropped the razorback and got two drop pods for the assault squads and sicarius. Though my plan is to sit still with the heavies and use the other unit to soak fire power, or claim objective if required.

Since I don't own any marine tanks except for a LRC, I always like to put most, if not all, of my marines in drop pods or deep strike them. However, I have found out that if you do jam everything into Rhinos and Razorbacks, sticking assault marines minus jump packs into the LRC with Sicarius might be an interesting way to go.

Better give Sicarius a Cmd squad including an Apothecarius.

Though a LRC is a lot of points for a transport, I can drop the packs and they can use a drop pod - or I could re-adjust 30 points and keep the packs and have the drop pods
Thats one thing about the command sqaud - FnP, but I don't think 6 is enough in total and they get mauled by a Hive Tyrant in CC, which is fair enough I s'pose.

1 x Captain Sicarius.

10 x Space Marines - plasma gun, plasma cannon - sgt w/ CCW & bolt pistol
10 x Space Marines - meltagun, drop pod - sgt w/ ccw & plasma pistol

10 x Assault Squad - sgt w/ botl pistol & ccw - jump packs removed and replaced with drop pod
10 x Assault Squad - sgt w/ botl pistol & ccw - jump packs removed and replaced with drop pod
Heavy Support
6 x Devastators - 2 x rocket launchers, 2 x lascannons - sgt w/ bolter & ccw.
1 x Vindicator
Plan is to put sicarius with an assault squad, drop them in along with the melta/plasma squad, this would give fire power support. The otehr drop pod will come in when available and provide support to either unit. The other two troop unit can capture objectives, but also will move in 24" so the heavy weaps can fire, but can also get one bolter shot in each. The vindicator will be supported from a distance by the devs.

Why Sicarius in this list? You don't particularly care about seizing the initiative, and I can't think of a good skill to give to one of your Tac squads. A generic captain might be better, or perhaps Tigurius.

I was thinking the same, will give me another 70 pts with a normal captain.
As Sicarius is with an assault squad, a tact squad cannot benefit anything from Sircarius, unless he joins them.

Sicarius gives a special skill to one of the Tac squads in your army, whether or not he's actually in the specific squad.

I'II double check that, but I'm sure it said a squad he's in the same unit with.
