I like the idea of a DE army - the way it plays, that is. I'd love to do one.

I suppose I don't mind the background, either.

I just absolutely hate the models! All the spikes and bondage gear just look silly to me.

Anyone have any good ideas for either

1. Modelling DE armies to make them look better? Mixing them in with other kits? Slicing off all the spikes? (surely this wouldn't work with vehicles as large as the Raider??) Using alternate Eldar/Elf models?

2. A convincing 'counts-as' army that could play with DE rules.

Any ideas???

Well, I always thought it would be cool to do up normal Eldar kits as Dark Eldar. Heavy on the black & Purple, borrow some icons of Slannesh from chaos, and maybe make their tech seem battered, used, and less new and shiny. The idea would be that they represent remnants of the cults that spawned Slannesh, I guess. (Though that might make them really old.)

But anyways, I think that it could be done convincingly, with some minor converting and consistent painting and look good. Kind of like those guys who make an undead army out of another range by add some bones, making everything tattered, and then painting it in a "ghostly" fashion.

Orrrr you could just wait a year or two and buy the new models when they come out.

Just no idea on what the 'new' DE models will look like as of yet. I've seen a Haemonoculus but that's about it...forgot where.

If you don't mind using green stuff, you can make some really kick-ass dark eldar conversions by making their armor look like the witchblade armor.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair.

For a while, I gave considerable thought to a DE "counts-as" army - Nocturnal Warriors of Hrud. In a lot of ways, it's a pretty easy "counts-as".

DE Warriors - Plastic Skaven Clan Rats or even better Plague Monks carrying Kroot rifles
DE Warriors w/ Disintegrators - Warpfire Throwers
DE Warriors w/ Dark Lances - Ratling Guns
Wyches - Clan Eshin Assassin Models
Incubi - Stormvermin
Raiders and Ravagers - These would essentially be the same, although chopped down to give them a lower profile, maybe also junked up a little to make them look scavenged
Haemonculus - Clan Moulder models
Archon/Dracon - Clan Skryre Warp Engineer models (Ikit Claw is always good!)

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

I like lots of the DE artwork and think that a DE army could be lots of fun. The figs absolutely sucks though.

If I did a DE army there would be much converting and scratchbuilding. Id probably use eldar, new dark elf and demonette bits. Using those bits and some plasticard and sculpting should be lots of fun.

For a counts as DE army I guess you could go with pretty much anything you like. Perhaps Chaos Demons meets Dark elfs. Or Tau meets Orks. Or space marines meets tyranids. Just some awesome ideas of the top of me head

Dark Elves army (fantasy) and a shed load of plastic eldar guardians and kits, suitable paint job and your away, lots of options there.
