I am new to this with only theoretical knowledge and I am trying to create a non-standard warp spider themed eldar army, not a warpspider central army, trying to make the entire army either arachnid or warp-based. I think this is important to the fluff of the army with everything either being warpy or spidery rather than a standard list trying to just keep the warp spider units going
When I look at the codex, a brightlance and a d-cannon cost the same price to mount on a hover platform. The brightlance is that same cost to put it on anything else you can think of, except for a wave serpent with the cost being 1.5 times normal for twin-linked, as is the rule.
My question here is this:
Since the brightlance does not change price no matter where you put it, and nothing else does either, a scatterlaser costs what a scatterlaser costs, so does a starcannon. Would a d-cannon change cost if I wanted to put it on my wave serpents, falcon, war walkers, or even vyper. If so why would it?

If you check out the codex you will see that each unit entry tells you which weapons it can be upgraded to have.
Wave Serpents, Falcons, War Walkers and Vypers all do not have the option of taking a D-Cannon.

I know they are not typically mounted there, that is the point.
There are specialized tanks that are equipped almost exclusively with shadow weavers, or scatterlasers. An Epic tank that IS a gigantic floating d-cannon (cobra).
The same is true for pulsars and brightlances. Those exist in sanctioned models in the full range from infantry carried to titan-killer, and I cannot kitbash some ready-made weapons on some modular weapon mouts for a justifiable and logical cost?

If you want to do this then OK - but there are two things that you need to be aware of.
1: The army would no longer be tournament-legal, this may also hamper your ability to get pick-up games unless you have it that your vehicle-mounted D-cannons 'count as' something else (obviously if you are just doing this for use in your own gaming group and they are ok with it then this is a moot point)
2: If you look at any of the IA books, they have rules for using Forgeworld models in 40k games. These typically have a higher points cost than normal for the weapons/wargear they use to ensure that no undue advantage is gained by using unusual kit. To represent this you may want to look at pricing your d-cannon 15-20% above 'normal'.
hope this helps,

Yea, I would have to use standard brightlances in tournament play. I was planning on that so I would not have to use an altered army list fot "real" games and "fun" games. Then I wold not even have to change tactics or playstyles of the army itslf.
