Okay, how exactly do I capture my own objective with orks? My troops detest being left behind, especially when they are squads of 30. Am I supposed to get a small grot squad and use that to capture instead?

thats not a bad call

another option would be to take a unit of shoota boys with a Nob with Boss pole - have them sit and shoot 18 isnt a bad number.

Taking a Warboss on a bike and taking Nobs on bikes and counting them as troops is another option. Theyre fast enough to zip back in time to snatch an OBJ

Is there anything wrong with leaving a 30 shoota boy squad with the stuff you suggested behind?

leaving that squad behind is a good option if you know your opponent likes to deepstrike/outflank to try to steal your objective from your slow moving horde. Leaving that shoota squad back there will definately hinder his plans. Plus with 34" range with big shootas, they can still help out.

You don't need to start worrying about your objective until turn 3 or 4.

Frankly alway keep a shoota squad to hold an objective.

Also keep guys on bikes to grab objective quickly.

Another is a Trukk that has dropped off boyz to contest an objective.

In all honesty, if 150 Boyz can't take an objective then 180 can't, you are running into some sort of buzzsaw. Leave one unit behind.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

With my Orks, I've learned to not place my one objective so far back in my deployment zone. I actually place it as far up in my deployment zone as possible. Then, I can have a big mob of shoota boyz sitting on it, yet still able to shoot and/or assault.

Once I started doing this, it made this mission a whole lot easier. I don't have to worry about Grots getting destroyed or leaving an entire unit out of range to do anything.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Yeah, you don't have to hide your objective. I tend to throw mine forward so I can move after theirs, and the guys on mine are still in decent range of support to/from my forward units.

Yep, I've found that SW are similar - put your objective(s) forward, so you don't have to leave a straggler behind to claim it.

i use grots, they are cheap and easy, or a 10 boy squad of shootas boyz, but i hate shootas most of the time and i love grots so i have them most ofnthe time and they work well until the enemy sees them and shoots at them

the best trick (and one which will get you a nice WTF? are you doing from your opp.) is to put your objectives in or as close to your opponents objectives/deployment zone as possible. That way you dont have to leave anything/anyone behind. Just try to put as many as you can as far forward as you can, easy. Of course you can always go with tabling your opponennet, which if you cant do you probablly shouldnt be playing orks.
