This came up on the "propsed rule" thread, and it turned into a bit of a debate, so I thought I would bring it up here and get a few more voices in on it. The Always Strikes irst rule says that if two models both have the ASF rule, then you use the models respective initiatives to determin who strikes first, and if they are the same, then you roll a D6. But the High Elf FAQ says that if two models are fighting and both have the ASF rule, one initiative 4 and the other initiative 5 but with a great weapon, the great weapon would strike last because "in effect, the two ASF rules cancel eachother out." in the "proposed rule" thread one person was attempting to propse a rule that made it so chargers would strike first if both units had ASF. by my interpretaion of the High Elf FAQ, this wouldn't be a proposed rule, it's already the rule and what the game designers ment by "use the models initiative to deterine who strikes first" is that you use the normal method i.e. Chargers, Higher initiative, if both are the same you go with the side that won combat the last round, if this doesn't apply either, then you roll off, and great weapons strike last. Any thoughts?

They actually rechanged the FAQ in the GW Canada site so that ASF v ASF would be simple initiative order. I posted a link to it a while back, lemme dig it out. The US FAQ does not have this same change made.

Dug up my old post:

and the link to the new FAQ from said post:

hmmm. ok, i don't really keep up on FAQ's from canada, or any other place than the U.S. site. Why would they do that? That doesn't make sense. I agree with the U.S. one. the two ASF rules would cancel eachother out and you would go back to normal. so which one should i use, now knowing that this one exists, should i go with the U.S. which is where I live, or go with the Canada. not that it affects me to much right now because I have put my HE's to rest for a while and am playing my lizards mostly.

why not just do what the rulebook says and go by initiative?

Asides the inconsistencies with FAQs (this isn't an unusual occurence), usernamesareannoying does make a direct point:

It is in the BRB. Page 94. ASF v ASF you go by initiative.

I was doing that, then they put out the FAQ that said otherwise, so I did it that way, and now we have two contradicting FAQ's and the first makes more sense to me. but oh well. Not that it really comes up that much.

It's a shame, my orcs would love it with the spell Waaagh. They'd be lethal, probably why they have it that way
