The hive fleet had landed upon an orc held world in eerily silence. However as the first of the tyranid organisms began to emerge the orcs quickly realised the threat that had infiltrated their planet was one not to be ignored...and a good fight was what it was all about anyway.

Ok this is my first battle report on dakka. Lemme know what you guys think.
Its a Capture and control mission with spearhead deployment.

Orcs deployed first. 20 shoota boyz inside a forest in the centre of their deployment zone. 15 lootaz (with 3 big shootas) holed up on their left in plain sight while 2 trucks with 12 orks with shootaz deployed on the far side of the forest behind the forest with the shootaz in. Warboss on a bike and 4 other bikes deployed in front of the lootaz.

Knowing the ork player had no blast weapons i deployed 8 hormies next to 8 gaunts as close to the centre as possible bunched up and all. A flyrant with 2 sets of scything talons set up on their right., while a super tooled up fex (or uberfex as i like to call it) set up on their left. 3 warriors with venom cannon and 2 devourers set up behind the gaunts and a brood of stealers (11) with broodlord infiltrated on the far left behind another forest. A lictor was also somewhere on the table ascertaining when the time was right to launch an attack.

Turn 1 went to the nids (me).
everything moved forward at maximum speed in a straight line towards the orcs (forgot about my own objective completely...oops). In the shooting phase got some decent run rolls for everyone (especially the fex who got an almighty 6). The only shooting to be done was the venom cannon armed warrior who managed to put down a single loota. Not the best phase ever but i knew that my tyrant and hormies would be in charge range if they could survive to turn 2...

The orcs in the forest held their ground while the bikes rushed forward to meet the oncoming threat. The trucks burst out of cover and made a beeline for the genestealers (gulp). In the shooting phase the lootas obliterated my hormies while in a flurry of desperate shots the hive tyrant was pummelled by the bikes and shootaboyz. To my surprise even a 2+ warp field save fails and out of seven successful wounds i fail 4 armour (or warp) saves and something inside me dies as well the big guy holding my force together.

Turn 2
Ok its not over yet. I try to get my lictor on the board to support the stealers but apparently the sight of 2 big red moving things scares the *^!* out of him and he remains in cover for this turn. The rest of my armt moves forward in an attempt to get into combat and stop more shots coming my way. In the shooting phase my warriors target the latest threat...the bikes but only manage to inflict 1 casualty. The gaunts also shoot at the bikes but do nothing at all. However in the assault phase the stealers have a bit more luck as the broodlord makes it into combat with one of the trucks and tears the big shoota off in wild fury.

The orcs respond with a flurry of firepower started with both truck boys moving slightly then disembarking on both sides of the stealers. After the smoke had cleared only the broodlord remained with 1 wound. The lootas open fire at the warriors but in a turn of abysmal shooting they only take off 1 wound. The bikes had inched toward the warriors too while the warboss disengaged and made a move toward the gaunts in the movement phase. They also open fire upon their respective targets and missed completely. However in the assault phase the bikes charged the warriors and the warboss hit home on the gaunts. In a stunning display of weapon skill prowess the warriors and bikes went 1 for 1 while the warboss lost a wound to the gaunts and then proceeded to smash 4 to bits with his powerclaw (the others then had to make saves due to their fearlessness and all perished). The boys that had jumped off their trucks held their ground, still a bit scared of the beast that had survived their many many shots. Oh and the shootaz in the forest made an attempt to escape the closing fex by getting out the other side of the jungle as quick as their legs could carry them (a double 1 for their movement - HA!) They then also opened fire upon the fex that was threatening their objective and managed to take off a single wound.

Turn 3

Continued when i next have time to post...please any constructive critisism appreciated. I know my army is assault based and lacks firepower. First time ever used it.

haha, tell me about it. I intend to lose the lictor and a couple of stealers and put in a couple of zoanthropes. It has the advantage against swarms and IG due to their blasts. Am intending to provide many hard to kill targets (tyrant, fex, stealer squad, and zoanthropes) which will hopefully draw a lot of fire over 2 turns. No way can they all be taken out, leaving something that can really hammer the opposition. Also am planning in 1500 point games to really max out infantry squads, but am finding it hard. Really love nids, even though im quite new to fifth edition (used to play back in first), and am finding that the swarms die far too easily to templates. Any advice? Dont wanna lose the uberfex, flyrant or broodlord with stealers. Was also planning another brood with scuttlers to harass anyone who strays too near the edges.

i would like to say that you put too many points into your fex and hive tyrant as you lack troops bad and is probably why you are losing bad

Ok this is my continuation of the report.

Turn 3
Finally a chance to assault some things this turn. Firstly I rolled for my uberfex's regenerate and failed. But in a stroke of fortune my lictor turned up just outside the forest to support the very lonely broodlord. The fex was very definately in charge range and made ready for an assault on the enemy objective.
Ok onto the assault phase. My lictor and broodlord joined an assault with 1 of the squads feeling that they had a good chance of at least hurting 1 squad badly before they themselves perished. However as luck would have it out of 9 attacks that hit on 3's i only managed to inflict 4 wounds. None were saved. In the fierce counter attack that followed the rest of the boys put down the lictor and broodlord permanently. I then moved onto my warriors in which i took 1 wound and dealt out none in a turn of some appalling dice rolls. Then onto the fex. He charged in and even though the orks felt no fear, they were none too hopeful either. After the intial round the sheer number of boys kept them in the fight though they had lost 3 of their number and the fex had lost 1 wound to the nob (the others were only S3 so couldn't even wound it - mwaaaahhhhh).

Now that my numbers were seriously thinned the orks had a good chance to strike back decisively. The warboss decided to rejoin his biker boyz whilst one squad of boyz jumped back onto their buggy in search of my objective. The other squad merely prepared to take their objective back by moving closer to the fex. In the ensuing close combats the warrior brood once again did very little (inflicted a single wound on the warboss) and were wiped out in return. Maybe making the boss angry wasn't the best thing to do after all). The Carnifex stayed in combat and took out another small batch of boyz (4) but there were still enough of them to make them think they were invincible...The nob did nothing this time.

Turn 4
Ok the fex is all i have and things look a bit grim. I can only hope to contest their objective by staying alive till the game ends...doesnt look likely. This combat round i finally slay enough boys to make them take a morale test and they fail. As they turn tail and run the fex merely eyes up the latest meal, the other squad of approaching boys.

The orks in the trukk make it to my objective and start shouting "'ere we go 'ere we go 'ere we go". The warbikes with boss and the other mob of boyz prepare to engage the fex while the lootaz pop off a lot of shots with no resulting damage. In the assault phase the boys and boss charge in boys going first but find no weak spots. Boss and fex strike simultaneously, i decide to go for the boys hoping to make them run with sheer number of kills, but it was not to be. With only 3 kills they had to pass a leadership test with Ld9...somethig not that hard to do. The warboss then struck back with his powerclaw turned up to "Smash da big 'uns" power setting and took off the remaining 3 wounds with ease. The game was over.

Afterthoughts: Well to be honest it was my first game in 5th using 'nids. I thought my dice rolling sucked a bit with my tyrant and some pretty important cc's but overall i guess it was a pretty even spread. My running units seemed to all get good rolls. My force is pretty much out of the box and im expanding it slowly. Am thinking about drastically changing my unit selection next time i play test (am preparing for a tournament in a couple of weeks and need to see what gaps need to be filled...a lot apparently). Overall the game did what it was supposed to do (show me how to play better) so im not that dissapointed with the loss. Hope you enjoy the read!
