So I usually hate the idea of putting a model's name on their base, but I'm actually considering this. I think if it can be done right, it can come off as being pretty cool. I'm looking for suggestions on how to create a small name plate that will be legible and look "clean" on the lip of a GW base. I figure since my Deathwing only number about 20 models, why not name them all? I've already done that legwork, now I just need a way to display it! Thanks in advance!

Could you make your own water-slide transfer? You can buy blank sheets designed for home printers.

You could also print them in a nice gothic font on some matte photo paper and the glue onto the base. Add some dots and it would look like the plate is riveted on. That way, the font and nameplates would be uniform in style and size

I think a good way to do this would be to cut a small plate from the thinnest plasticard you have and then use a single hole puncher to cut off the corners. Paint to whatever metallic end you desire, add your model's name and 4 painted "bolts" and you're done.
No camera at work, so I had to resort to a scanner, but something like this:

Ok, first, here is a tutorial on making your own decals:

I like the idea of plasticard. I would go with Grey stuff, but sculpting is my solution a little too much of the time.

One option is getting a stamp set and doing stamp imprints into the name plates. You can use it on plasticard for the name plates or green stuff if you want to do scrolls on the bases. You can get decent stamp sets pretty cheap online and it will help you keep a uniform look across the entire army. *Edit* It looks like a jump from 1/8 inch to 1/16 scale raises the price pretty dramatically. A full set of 1/16 metal/jewlers letter stamps run around $60+ US from what I've seen.
