Seeing the recent developments in
40k's slide into seeming oblivion I'm shuffling back toward Fantasy. Harlequins as a stock unit were the first slight. (Yes, I've played Eldar
that long.) Then came the Chaos Marines Codex.

Then came 5th Edition and

but then they slipped right back into the pattern with the new policy on Marines and such. I simply have too much indecision. So it's time to take a romp through the Old World again.
I've a 1250 pt Skaven army. I've tired of it having had my fill of horde armies in general so I'm looking for something more interesting. I love the Skaven style and personality; I don't like the actual tactics and mechanics of the army once on the field. I at one point had a High Elf army, I dislike the new range so they are out. Plus destruction by and large is just more fun.
I'm mostly interested in Dark Elves or Warriors of Chaos of a non-Khorne variety. I'm also open to Wood Elves probably with a dark, possibly winter theme.
I'd potentially be open to other ideas though I generally like the following things.
I like magic, even before the current days of the so-called "magehammer".
I like options, the more tricks I can cram into an army the better. I love nothing better than a balls to the wall, white knuckle win.
I tend to appreciate speed though I don't distain staying power. (Warp Spiders are my perennially favorite
40k unit)
I like painting armor and/or smooth curves.
I'm on the fence as to whether i prefer shooting or melee.
I do have the 2004
GD Archaon on foot so I easily field him as a generic Chaos general. Other than that I've no fantasy models other than rats.
Thoughts on what to do?
