So I was talking to some friends and the subject of Orks looting a Carnifex came up. Being a Tyranid player beforehand and moving towards the Orks, this sounded both awesome and hilarious. I figured my army would wind up with a bunch of Lootas in it, so going for Death Skullz seemed appropriate. I figure this looted Carnifex will be a "counts as" for a Deff Dread with either three or four DCCW. I'm not done with the conversion, just the paint. I will later build a howdah or something to rest on the Carnifex's back to hold an Ork dangling a Grot out in front of the 'fex on a pole, much like people dangling a carrot out in front of a mule.

Anyhow, here's the painted Carnifex, quite unhappy from being splashed with the Death Skullz lucky color. The Orks didn't have a Stompa or Gargant handy to hold it down as well as they should've so they resorted to tossing buckets of paint and paint-covered Grots at it. The finished product will have a Grot totally immersed in blue lying on the base.

I think what I love most about the blue paint is how well it thickened, making it really look like paint separate from the Tyranid's skin and carapace.

I like the idea and it would look cool with your ideas.

One suggestion: add looted metal bits and angry ork things to the claws and looted armor plates so it looks like the orks put armor and stuff all over him.

Great idea, and will likely do just that when I get more orky bits. Right now all I have is an AoBR set and my 'nids.

Grab a thick paintbrush, glob a fair amount of Enchanted Blue on it, flick/sling it onto the model for the random streaks. For the thick splotches I spun the paintbrush between my thumb and fingers and jabbed at the model, letting the spin direct the random angle. I'm sure you can do this without spinning the brush, it just seemed like a good idea at the time, and the random exit angles worked well for me.

you should rivet some steel plates to him and and rivet a big shoota on his back alog with an Ork and then he will be "Orky".

As I told Threeifbyair, I'll probably do something like like that, armor plates either riveted or chained onto the fex to cover things like vulnerable sides and underbelly. I'm going to mount a Skorcha somewhere on the 'fex, since that's the only gun I feel a Deff Dread should have, if any at all.

This Thread might help, I personaly find that just an Ork on top with a chain looks Brillaint, and very Orky : D

The Hatta: Wow, that thing looks great! Called in a Mekboy and a Painboy to make that thing. I thought about doing something like that, but already had my 'fex built, it was just unpainted at the time.

Even beyond that, mine's more like the Death Skullz found a 'fex and decided it was their new pet.

I like the idea, but I don't think the paint job is enough to pull it off.

Honestly, I would play him as a Squiggoth, so he should have some big guns on top.

Of course the paint itself isn't enough, I never said it was done. You don't think betweek the Ork boy, dangling Grot, randomly riveted armor plating, and a Skorcha put on there somewhere is enough to say it counts as a Deff Dread?

Dakka Dakka Dakka Waaagh!!!! Though yeah, some armor plates, glyphs etc. would make it much more orgy. Perhaps a grot sitting on the Fex's back?

I second that!... or have a captured Guardsmen... that would be pretty funny.

I've decided it will be a Snotling being dangled, not a Grot since the Grots are too big for the purpose and Snotlings are just the right size. I went against the idea of a Guardsman because I can't imagine the Orks actually keeping one around long enough for this purpose. Guy on the pole will likely be this guy on the right.

Thanks, I made it back when I actually watched the anime.
