I just split Black Reach with a friend and am looking at ways to build towards 'Ard Boyz. My first step is creating the following 1750 Point Army List, which on paper looks pretty good. Since I don't have experience playing as Orks (have played against and as several horde assault armies), any C&C is welcome.

Ork 1750 Point Army List

Warboss - PK, Attack Squig, Bosspole, Cybork Body

Warboss - PK, Attack Squig, Bosspole, Cybork Body

Nobz (10) - Painboy, 2 PKs, 7 Big Choppas, Stikkbombz

Nobz (10) - Painboy, 2 PKs, 7 Big Choppas, Stikkbombz

Boyz Mob (12) - Nob (PK)
Trukk - Grot Riggers, Reinforced Ram

Boyz Mob (12) - Nob (PK)
Trukk - Grot Riggers, Reinforced Ram

Boyz Mob (12) - Nob (PK)
Trukk - Grot Riggers, Reinforced Ram

Boyz Mob (12) - Nob (PK)
Trukk - Grot Riggers, Reinforced Ram

Battlewagon - Killkannon, Deff Rolla, Grot Riggers

Battlewagon - Killkannon, Deff Rolla, Grot Riggers

* * * * *

Each Boss rides with 10 Nobz in a 'Wagon. Depending on the Anti-tank in the opponent's army, the Trukks either hide behind or partially cover in front of the Battlewagons.

Slow after dismounting, I'm worried that 48 Boyz won't be enough punch in Assault, even with the 20 Nobz and 2 Bosses. I want to keep the list pretty Nob-heavy, as well as keep it mechanized, but I do plan on adding 3x3 Deff Koptas with TL Rokkits for some faster, light anti-tank.

Am I totally off-base here, or does this list have some potential? I only own the Orks that come in the Black Reach box set, so if radical changes must be made, now is the time to make them -- before I drop coin on more models.

Thanks in advance.

Most of my lists are footslogging Orks but I have played a couple games with mechanized. My lists were nearly identical to yours in terms of vehicle choice: 2 x Battlewagons with Deff Rollas and 4 x Trukks.

I recommend giving all of your vehicles red paint job.

The Wagons are resilient with 14 front armor but if you are flanked you might be in trouble since they become armor 12/10 so be careful of that. One way to mitigate this problem is to put a Big Mek in one of your vehicles. He'll grant 4 up cover to his vehicle and any vehicle within 6 inches. The drawback to the Mek is that they aren't good for much else and now one of your Nob units don't score since you only have 1 warboss.

A list like presents an opportunity to take Ghazghull Thraka. His slow and purposeful drawback isn't as relevant with a vehicle. He also lets your Nobs score as troops just like a Warboss does. If you can find the points consider using him.

If possible mix up your Nob weaponry and add more variety. Bosspole, Waagh Banner and Combi Weapons are all useful and they allow you to split wound allocation strategically in your favor. With a 10 man unit I'd do the following: Painboy, Power Klaw, Big Choppa, Combi Scorcha, Combi Rockit, TL Shoota, Bosspole, Waagh Banner, 'Eavy Armor or Cybork Body, No Upgrade. By doing that you now have 10 completely different Nobs for wound allocation.

Give your 12 man boyz units Boss-poles.

Nice list! This strat is really solid and it's a really fun way to maximize use of Black Reach Orks. Good luck building those Battle-wagons!

Looks quite good. What models are you taking for Battle Wagons?

A solid list. You might want to find the points for some Boss Poles because those trukk boyz may need them. Also, I've found that with a nob/boss squad a bosspole is useful too. By turn 3 or 4, my nob/boss squad has left a bloody trail across the table but it is also down to 4 or 5 models and therefore vulnerable to tankshocks, LD tests from shooting, pinning, etc. Remember, if a unit is 50% or smaller it will not regroup. Wounds from the bosspole can be saved against and FNP would also apply.

PROSECUTOR: By now, there have been 34 casualties.

@Kevin Nash:
I'm definitely going to make room for Ghazghull. I looked his rules over, and he's too good to pass up. Red Paint Job seems like a steal for 5 points each. Over the course of a 3-turn vehicle charge, 3" can make a world of difference.

@wuestenfux:
I haven't built this list yet, but with the plastic Battlewagon coming out in a few months, I might wait and buy them when they're released. In the interim, I'll probably use Land Raider proxies.

@olympia
I'll definitely make points for the Bosspoles. I had forgotten how Ork Ld tests worked, but now that I remember, I don't plan on keeping them at Ld7 with no help.

Thanks all for the input. I'm really excited to get started with this list -- I'll probably wait until Christmas time before I move toward expanding beyond 500 points.
