Well, it's actually the 2nd, I used the 1st one to practice.

Some background: I'm from Venezuela, where there are no GW shops or even FLGS with anything 40k related. Too bad, I'm cursed with the WH worm (and my friends). Anyway, this is a AoBR boy, only had the hobby starter set to work with (foundation paints) and some paints I bought in an art supply store. Anyway, the paints turned out to be blah, and since the hobby set only carries an opaque green, I had to do the skin on whatever greens I found (yellow green, clear green and olive green). You can see how it turns out from up close on the choppa arm on the last pic. Also I only had Gunmetal to work with, and it doesn't mix very well with other paints other than black, and still... :S

I'm also not so hot for calthan brown for leather :S

Comments? Only thing left to do is seal it.

I like. Good job for a mini, most people just don't get it at all on their first. I had no idea for a while.

For your first couple of minis you're doing great!

The first thing I'd look to do to improve this is tone down the skin a little and maybe look to get some more definition on your metalwork.

You can do both at the same time with a light wash over the model. You'd need to experiment, but black, brown, or Payne's gray (if you can get some) should all work (although not at the same time )

Thin down you paint to the consistency of milk and then brush evenly over the model. The colour will naturally wash into the recesses, making them darker and giving more definition and at the same time will just take an edge off the highlights.

If you find that its darker than you want, you can always pick up the highlights again as a finishing touch.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you go on.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

For the fiest mini is nice. simple and clean with black coat (i think)

secund one seem brighter, because of the light effect?

Anyway, nice job and keep up even you're really "alone" in Venezuela (almost nowhere to play)

Thank you guys. I'm priming my next batch to get busy again. I'll post pics later.

Here's a brighter pic of the last ork I posted:

I did wash this one (and did a wash on the first one afterwards), but it came out light, I'll try darker shadows on my next boy. I'd like to improve on the metalwork, but I feel the lack of metal colors is holding me out on that one... Boltgun and dark Boltgun don't really cut it. Will have to order some. And some goblin green and bleached bone >_>

PS: I'm using wash and drybrush

Fantastic work for your first minis. Much higher standard than people who have painted for years. If you keep it up and try different techniques you'll be an amazing painter.

That's a damn bright shade of green, other than that good work.

those are very good first mini's!
one thing, those weapons are very clean for orks. a simple wash or two is all you need to make them look like ork weapons.

keep up the good work

The skin should be darker imo. Most people go for a slightly dirty look with ork skin, usually a Foundation green with a badab black or thraka green wash.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
