Here is a concept model of my version of Ork Stormboyz. Sure, rockets strapped to your back is cool and all, but what an Ork really wants is his own skysurf board...
The board is simply two pieces of surfboard-shaped plasticard glued together, with various gubbinz stuck on here and there, mounted on a flying stand. He has greenstuffed footloops and headscarf.
I am pondering whether to make a whole unit of skysurfers, or whether each boy should have his own particular means of sudden vertical transport. Current possibilities include: an ork with clumsy jets attached to his hands and feet; a chained squig with a rocket on its back, with the ork holding the other end of the chain; an ork with giant pogo-stick legs; an ork riding on a rocket in the manner of Slim Pickens; an ork with a heli-pack (Woody Allen in Sleeper); an ork with rickety, tri-plane wings on his back; an ork with helium balloons attached to his arms and legs and a big propeller; an ork with an armoured butt and a rocket launcher, pointing down and back (for some Quake-style rocket jumping). Any other ideas?
What do you think? All comments and thoughts appreciated.
Sholto

love it, bt might aswell use that as a bike
large enough and has da gunz.
another idea for stormboyz; an ork riding a large flying squig.
out of all the ideas i prefer the heli-pack.

Fantastic conversion.
However I would have picked it as a bike at first look.

Nice. Very Rogue Trader Era. If the ork was only a Squat the retro would be complete.

I did three surfin orks a while back and used them as def koptas had one wearing shorts and one wearing a surfer type floppy hat. Inspired from an article in white dwarf where they had an ork sittling on a frame with twin linked big shootas and a huge engine in the back. Youve got some other nice ideas too. I'm not shure the ork with the balloons is a good idea not enough SPEED!!!

Thanks for all the comments!
It never occured to me that this would be better as a bike or a deffcopter, but now that you mention it, it does seem better than "counts as" a Stormboy.
I am going to trim the shape of the board into some more angular and orky - lots of straight edges rather than the smooth curves it has at present. I am also going to redo the teef at the front, and make them bigger, blockier and thicker. I think I will also put a hole or two in the board.
More pics when I get this done.

Brilliant! I like the steel mesh on the leading one, and the hat is a nice touch. Overall, a bit chunkier than mine - I think I want to end up somewhere nearer your design in that sense, but still retain the smaller size of the skysurf board. Most gnarly!
