Are there any Imperial Armour books that are considered out of date? I'm considering collecting a renegade guard force and would like to know which Imperial Armour books I definitely don't need.

Thanks

Imperial Armour 1 and 2 are generally out of date for the "gaurd" items. Imperial Armour Vol 5 has a full renegade list.

yes, they are older, but not out of date.
each volume covers different races/armies.
one isn't replaced when a new one comes out.

I have IA1&2 and IA vols 1-4. None of the IG vehicle profiles have changed, and for many of them, they're identical to the IA1 ( I'm talking the original softcover) profiles and costs. If they are unchanged, how can they be "out of date"?

This doesn't include any APoc specific entries, or new units that aren't in vraks.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

That's a tough question to answer. Here's the deal:

The first thing to remember is that all Imperial Armor books are supplements to the game (just like Apocalypse or Cities of Death) which means that your opponent needs to be aware (and okay) with you playing these rules.

Second, many of the units found in the earlier books have since had their entries re-printed and (often subtly) updated in the newer volumes.

After Apocalypse came out, Imperial Armor Apocalypse was released which updated MANY older entries into the new 'Apocalypse' style of entry. The latest IA book (Volume 6) has finally abandoned the old style of Imperial Armor rules for Super-Heavies, Gargantuan Creatures and Flyers and has fully switched over to the Apocalypse rules.

So in short, I *HIGHLY* recommend you stick with the most current version of any particular unit's rules, whether that be in Apocalypse, Imperial Armor Apocalypse, etc. as all Imperial Armor rules are now essentially Apocalypse rules. This is exactly the direction we've gone with Adepticon since last year (you have to use the most current printed version of the rules for any particular unit).

To figure out which book contains the most updated version of a particular entry I *highly* recommend (another high recommendation) you pick up the Imperail Armor Apocalypse book because it has a pretty thorough listing of every Imperial Armor unit and where you can find the rules for it.

Alternatively, within a week or so Adepticon will be publishing a list of all the units that will be used for the tournament next year and exactly which book contains the most updated version of those rules. I've painstakingly gone through each and every book to make this list so I guarantee you that it is quite comprehensive and should help you figure out exactly which books you need to buy.

Finally, if you're talking about the Imperial Armor variant army lists, all of them, except for the Heretic list just released in Vol. 6, will suffer from being written before v5 and therefore will have references to rules that are no longer valid. If you want to use these older variant army lists you and your opponents will have to approach them with an open mind in order to solve any issues you run into as Forgeworld does not update their variant army lists as new versions of the game are produced.

If all you're looking to do is play the Heretic army, then the only two books you really need are:

Imperial Armor Voume 6 (for the army list and some slightly updated unit entries)
Imperial Armor Apocalypse (has a bunch of units including Chaos ones)

Then depending on exactly which units you use in the army list, the Heretic Army list in IA vol 6 will reference you back to the appropriate IA book to find the rules (mainly IA Vol 1 for most of the old IG units).

If you've got any particular questions feel free to post 'em here as I *just* got through doing a thorough cataloging of all IA rules and units for Adepticon so I should be able to give you the answer you need.

Sweet! Thanks for the thorough reply. I'll get the 5th book, Apocalypse, and whichever units I choose to take.

Also, which Renegade list is better? The 5th or 6th book? I've read the 5th and love it, but really have no idea what the 6th one looks like.
