With the new 5th edition rules in Ind. characters can now be picked off unless they join up in a unit. That being said, how is everyone running their warboss ? I wanna use a Boss on a bike but don't want to stick him with a squad of bikers, so with the new rules is that a good idea ? Is it standard to stick him with some nobs in a truck and speeding him in to battle that way ? let me know what your boss is up to these days. I'm putting together a 1500pt army and want some ideas on what to do with da warboss.

I'm running my Black Reach warboss in a 10-man unit of Nobz in a Trukk. He does very well and contributes greatly to their CC damage.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Stick him in a unit of Sluggas. Biker Boss is da bomb but he's gonna get killed unless you stick it with some wound shields.

Biker Boss runs with a biker or nob biker unit on the way in, then splits off when assault is imminent. Of course, I'm not exactly short on biker units, so it's an easy choice for me.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

My biker warboss runs with nob bikers. My Mek runs with a burnaboy unit in a battlewagon.
Running ICs by themselves is just not a good idea anymore.

Humm, I like the idea of mek with burnas in a battle waggon. Gonna have to hold off till Jan with the release of the new battle wagon before i can give that idea a shot, but interesting idea. Thanks for the replies, gonna have to abandon the idea of a solo biker boss and work with the trukks.

I'd give that group nothing short of a Battlewagon to ride in. Sticking them on a Trukk is like putting a very big sign of "Shoot here 1st!", and that's what any opponent with half a brain would do.

How are bikes in general working for the Orks ? when i ran them with my old dark angle army it usually ended in tears. But i think Nobs on bikes with a PB tagging along would be a nasty thing, i just get wary of the points. Nobs on bikes, humm not a bad name for a band.

Nob bikers are absolutely top tier units. As long as they have leadership from an IC.
Trick of the day. Buy different upgrades for each nob in the biker unit. This way you can completely circumnavigate the multi-wound models in a unit wound allocation.
If you want a shortcut try this...
warboss bike cybork body attack squig power klaw kombi-skorcha
nob biker upgraded to painboy unit upgraded with cybork bodies
nob biker with waaagh banner
nob biker with power klaw kombi-skorcha
nob biker with bosspole
nob biker with big choppa kombi-skorcha
nob biker
I have been on the giving end and the receiving end of this unit. it's only drawback is that it can only kill one unit per turn. You don't necessarily need the kombi-skorchas if its too expensive for you. But I recommend hanging on to everything else.
I just faced off against a walking nob unit built similarly with a walking warboss. This unit can work really well in a trukk or battlewagon
warboss cybork body attack squig power klaw kombi-skorcha
nob upgraded to pain boy with eavy armor unit upgraded with cybork bodies
nob with waaagh banner and eavy armor
nob with power klaw and eavy armor kombi-skorcha
nob with boss pole and eavy armor
nob with big shoppa and eavy armor kombi-skorcha
nob with big choppa kombi-skorcha
nob with eavy armor
nob

There is nothing in the codex that would hint at using kombi-scorchas in CC.
Only burnas are PWs in CC and a scorcha is a heavy flamer.
For my Warboss I ether have him rideing a bike with biker boyz or hitching a ride on a battle wagon with his nob buddies while my KFF mek rides shotgun in another wagon.

They do shoot at the Trukk. It doesn't help them In fact if I get first turn I often run the trukk out in front so they basically have to shoot at it. Knowing where your enemy is going to shoot can be pretty useful
I try and park the trukk where they have trouble targeting it with their whole army. It has a KFF so half their glancing/penetrating hits do nothing anyway. If they do kill it, sometimes it Kareens and they end up with a bunch of angry MANz and a Warboss charging them the next turn. To hurt the Boss and Nobz, they have to put at least two powerful units shooting into it and they are more likely just wasting firepower on something they won't seriously hurt.
Worst case is they kill it and it blows up in place and the boss and nobz have to walk in. They still have a 5+ save from the KFF, and the boyz will end up in front of them in a turn or so for a 4+ save.
Plus if they are busy shooting at the trukk there's a lot of other stuff in the army that isn't being shot at. Like the other trukk full of Ard Boyz, who can dish out a fair amount of pain by themselves. Or the two 30-strong slugga mobs that make great use of any turns when they are not being shot up.

Warboss - mega armour, boss pole, attack squg - 120
Elite:
5 meganobz - 2 shoota-skorcha - 210 (with ghazghkull in trukk)
Trukk - red paint job - 40
5 meganobz - 2 shoota-skorcha - 210 (with warboss in trukk)

with ghaz its not so bad though since his waaagh! gives me another 6" free move.
