Subject: Orks without loota spam?

Can orks be made to work without loota spam? Ideally, I'd want to play a kult of speed with lots of stormboyz, trukks, battlewagons, bikes, and maybe some infiltrating kommandos. I hate the loota models, hate the concept, and hate being forced to play with lots of static, vulnerable models.
Since I'm getting (back) into orks after a long hiatus from the hobby, can somebody tell me what the current, viable ork builds are? The new battlewagon looks great and I love the bike and trukk models, so that's the direction I'm leaning in.

Orks are a powerfull list, even without the lootas. A kult of speed list can push 60+ models into combat on turn two, though its vulnerable to killpoints. Or maybe you like bikes..

Well, if you wanna go speed kult then taking Lootas isn't as good as say... Nobs with a dedicated Trukk/Battlewagon. But if you're gonna footslog Lootas are the best Elite option followed by Kommandos.
You could ditch em tho, nobody is making you take em. You can take aditional Kommandos. They're well priced and gives something else to worry about to your opponent. However Lootas are the best response to <AV13 vehicles and it's a spot that is hard to fill by other units with less volume of fire.>

I've got a KOS list that doesn't touch the Loota. They are not a mandatory unit by any means.

I usually take something like this:
MA warboss with upgrades
Big Mek with KFF
4 x meganobz, in a trukk
12 x ardboyz, in a trukk
30 x slugga boyz, 3 x big shootas
30 x shoota boyz, 3 x big shootas
6 x bikes
2 x killa kanz, grotzookas
2 x killa kanz, grotzookas
Whole lot comes to about 1500pts and tends to do pretty well.

Without loota spam?
This could mean a balanced mix, with one unit of lootas and varied trops elites Fa and HS choices.
Mixed orks like most mixed lists are weaker, but definately viable as the orks are rather potent all told.
However if you want a lot of something there are plenty of ways of doing this while vleaving lootas behind.
Green Tide. Up to 180 orks as troops. While this does not proclude lootas it is likely you will be giving cover saves to your opponents.
Kult of speed. Bikes as troops, deffkoptas, nobz/boyz in trukks and skorchas. No need for lootas here.
Battlewagons. Six plus AV14 vehicles, loaded with boyz and nobz you cannot have this and lootas. A solid wall of dethrollas does work. Besides three killkannon provide the hammer.
I am sure we can all think of other ways to build a nasty ork army.

lootas are fun, but i rather take burna spam, load em in looted wagons or battlewagons, send em into the front line and get into cover, hit em with mass flame templates, assult the next turn using burna's as power weapons.

lootas get 1-3 shots a turn, which isnt bad.
burnas get a flame template each turn, and have power weapons + 3 attacks on the charge, i know what i would take
squig, you might like my army list

Burnas are 6+ save troops expected to go up to rapid fire range and stay there.
Burnas in mobz were nasty, the only way I see burna boyz working now is on a battlewagon.

And oh do they ever work in a battlewagon. The look on someone's face when you tell them to take 85 saves from one unit of burnas shooting is always priceless.
That's usually about the time I offer to demo a game of warmachine/hordes for them.

My favorite, wiping out a two squads of space marines consecutively with fire from your bikers, don't underestimate a warbiker mob from handling your ranged attack needs.

Sneaky Kommando

It all depends on what you want to run, do you want to run KOS, NOBS as troops, green tide or any other variant. Orks are an army that you have to find you personal niche, no option is worse that the other. I have about 4 different ork armies from a nob army to KOS to the dakka army (which has 2 squads of lootas in 2 battle wagons a looted wagon 2 big meks (KFF and SAG) and some shoota boys, and of course the green tide. It sounds like you prefeer to run a green tide or KOS army so I would start with that, play some small point games (green tide is absolutely unstoppable in 1000 points or less) and see what you prefeer to play. Burna boys work well in a looted wagon as well (with 3 rokkit launchas) yes it is fun to place one burna template on a squad (say you get 4 models) then tell your opponent 36 hits (plus 1 for the skorcha). In which they will reply 36 HITS!? Burnas are good in a horde army as well, I keep the up front but mixed in, the opponennt usually just sees green and starts shooting at the closest mobs, when you get withing charge range its nice to have 15 power weapons (45 attacks 22 hit 11 wound). Any way lots of options with orks (unlike most armies where you have to play one list to be competitive)
For a good KOS army I would go with 2 battle wagons )150 points each (deff rolla, 20 points of guns, armor, red paint job) a mob of ard boys (18 or 19 with no special weapon, you wont ever fire it and a 105 point warboss) a nob squad (7-8 nobs with a war boss 105 or 130 point wb) 2 trukk mobs with rokkit in the squad and on the trukk.
for about 14-1500 points with 250 for other stuff (more trukks, kommandos with snikrot, a kill kannon on you wagon which are very nice for killing marines 2's to wound with no save) Alternativly instead of 2 warbosses get a Big mek with a KFF it will make your vehicles unkillable, keep them all together and you get a 4+ CS wherever you go. And remember when deploying you get 2", but that does not mean you have to be completly within 2" just part of your base has to be within 2", so you actually get an extra 3/4 of an inch. Charge range on turn one is 21 3/4" on turn two its up to 27 3/4" (waagh)
