First question, Uphold the Honour of the Emperor wrote:No unit may benefit from cover for Saving throws.
So if someone shoots at a bike squad behind a Crusader squad, do the intervening models of the Crusader squad count as "cover"? Also do turbo-boosting bikes get a cover save? Vehicles that popped smoke? Second part, Uphold the Honour of the Emperor states: All units are immune to the effects of Pinning and can never be pinned
and 5th ed. FAQ wrote:Q. If I find a reference to a unit that is ‘pinned’, does it mean a unit that has gone to ground? A. Yes, ‘pinned’ is simply a short way of saying ‘gone to ground by failing a pinning test’.
Since it can be argued that pinning and gtg are the same thing does that mean? A. BT w/ Uphold cannot gtg whatsoever B. BT can gtg then act as normal next turn.

Basically, BT using that vow cannot take cover saves, regardless of source.
And sure, you can GtG, but you wouldn't get a cover save if you did...................... But realistically, it should be A.

Is "benefiting from cover for saving throws" the same thing as a cover save? In the case of smoke and turbo-boosting there's no cover being interacted with.

The benefit from cover is a cover save, which doesn't necessarily have to come from actually being "in cover".
Black Templars with this Vow do not get a cover save, ever, making this the most useless Vow ever in 5th edition.

exactly, go with preffered enemy. And being pinned is being forced to go to ground (there is no argument that they are or are not the same thing)

the only benefit that cover provides is a cover save. there are cases where a unit may aquire a cover save in the absence of cover itself (such as bikes turbo-boosting, vehicles using smoke, skimmers moving flat-out and shooting through area terrain or models). so if you take that vow, you cant use any cover saves.
GW have been very specific about pinning and going to ground because some units are immune to pinning. every unit may 'go to ground' when it gets the choice. this does not mean they are pinned, but they may still take no voluntary action in the following turn (they much still take compulsary action such as fighting when assaulted or falling back). a unit that is pinned is forced to go to ground, it gain +1 cover save but may take no voluntary actions in their turn. units that are immune to pinning may not be forced to go to ground, although they may go to ground of their own volition.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

Why would you ever take a vow other than the Preffered Enemy one?!! THAT is the question.
"Uphold" is totally stupid now in 5th (and wasn't all that useful in 4th either).

You might want the anti-psyker vow for a little bit of lash resistance and potential turn 1 charge.
