Quite small list, but I think it could be fun and semi-competitive..

I wanted a sternguard pod list, but also wanted Kantor.. which would only allow one librarian; so I picked one that would pack a punch and provide even more flexibility...

Take out Tigurius and put in a normal librairian.

Other than that, the list is very one-shot pony-ish. Against armies that aren't heavy armour, you're going to have trouble doing enough shots to hurt them.

I looove tigurius, especially the way you're using him.

Against newbie players (I don't mean this as an insult) It will be really fun, and damningly effective. Against experienced players, it will be fun and moderately effective.

I've been playing a list almost identical to this, except with Lysander. I hope you don't mind, but I am stealing that name, STERN-POD!

You have enough combi-meltas, replace the one tacs meltagun with a flamer, you will need it for horde. Also, if you drop the pw from the tac squad, you can put another deathwind on the third sternguard.

I disagree that this list will have difficulty with non-armor lists. Three sternguard dropping with deathwind packs a serious punch. I know, I have been play testing this in two tourney's so far and several pick-up games. It's working.

Hell, I'd replace Tigurius by a normal Librarian (nullzone and gate of infinity please).

It's winning

One game, at band camp , on the drop Lysander and the 3 sternguard destroyed 2 vindicators and wasted a character and his retinue. On the next turn, they assaulted a pred and dread after absorbing fire, dispatching both. Then went on to secure three objectives, killing a second character and 10 tactical marines in the process. Pedro and the 2 tac squads did not fare so well against the dread and tacs they faced, as they were killed, but 3 objectives to 2 got me the win.

It has not lost to date, albeit limited tourney experience. It has bested 3 marine armies, 2 necron, 2 demon, 1 tyranid, 1 eldar and drew an ork horde.

All you need is a little bit of bad rolls on the combi-meltas and you're in for it, as after that you have no anti-tank.

Picture this:

15 combi-meltas, 10 hit.

Of those 10, let's say 9 penetrate.

Now the odds are you get 4-5 destroyed results. But what if you don't? Or what if you do, but they're all for the same squad while the other two just stun and blow off weapons? It's not that unheard of for 3 or 4 rolls that should be higher to come up low - I'm not talking the calamity of "what if you only roll 1's the whole game!" But just what if you roll 3 or so? Or all your damaging results are on the same squad?

After that, you really don't have much but bolters. Just something to think about.

As for anti-horde, easy: Give heavy flamers to sternguard. I don't know why people are so afraid to lose the uber bolter. For something with limited usefulness like a meltagun? Sure, I wouldn't give it up. But for something SO devastating against hordes? Sign me up.

I hear what you are saying. For me it's the fact that my list has deathwind, rapid-firing bolters, and the best basic statline in the game on all my units to take care of horde, but nothing to reliably to take out AV 13/14. With the cheapo combi-meltas I don't lose the sternguards special ammunition, which I am paying a premium for (25 points/model) and gain the reliable one-shot kill for cheap (25 point upgrade for 5 shots), a drop pod's reliable guidance system for delivery (35 points).

Also, keep in mind, that in a tourney, you need to be able to deal with hordes, but you must also be able to deal with 2+ land raiders. The sternguard with combi-meltas and drop pod deathwind, IMHO, are proving to be the most reliable form to deal with both. Now I use Kantor, so I have 5 scoring units (10 if I combat squad) in my 1750 point list for the advantage in objective missions. Thanks to SunTzu, I am affectionately calling it DORNSFISTS KANTOR STERN-POD

Krak grenades? Not against a Landraider. But you're right, the combi-meltas are the best way to deal with those heavy tanks.
