I am looking to get myself a full fledged Grey Knight ONLY army. What is the best set up for that? Large retinues for Inquisitors? Stupefying amount of Terminators with Grey Knight Heroes? And how worth it really are stormtroopers?

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I had a friend who triecd to get back into 40K during late 4th ed. by collecting a pure Grey Knight force.

Never won a game. Doesn't play any more.

That answer your question?

You need bodies and grey knights at 25 pts base with so-so heavy weapons will be challenged.

You are giving up the real strength of DH right now which is the inquisitor (lord) with mystics to beat up all the drop pod/demon spam deep striking on you.

I can vouch for the grey knight termies as being awesome but again they are pricey.

I think you could look at grey knights as the core to your army build but really look at them as an ally to IG or the reverse. Otherwise take that inquisitor core and add a couple of the terminators as the hitting power of your army.

Read Stelek's tactics article on this:

Its the best advice I've seen on doing pure GKs

Australia, mate

That tactica was written by Deadshane1.

And Deadshane1 got some of his ideas from here:

Apologies to Deadshane - must have got it mixed up with another article.

As for other authors, the article does credit other people.

In any event, I was just trying to point the OP in the right direction...

Stormtroopers can take meltas and rhinos. Spamming minsized units of ISTs in rhinos with dual meltas will greatly improve your AT ability.

In the old GK fluff, when all Grey Knights were terminators, the way they worked was by teleporting in. Granted, it may not be tactically feasible, but I don't know of anybody even exploring the option of teleporting GKs in close off of teleport homers carried by ISTs.

I know you are looking for an all grey knight army, however I've recently been looking at incorporating a few troop squads into marine lists and combining them with the new unique HQ's special abilities.

How about a unit of 10 grey knight troops with a GK Master coming out of a land raider that is outflanking with the Khan special character on the table. Khan can attach to another GK unit in a LR and they are now furious charging GK's. WS 5, STR 7, Init 5. Wow.

GK Masters can attach to drop pod marine units to come in first turn in the face of the enemy.

imo your asking too much too quickly, I can explain many uses and builds for units but It's upto you to find the best set up.
your asking me to set-up your army?
Stormtroopers can be used in more than one way.
Stormtroopers are cheap troops which can take advantage of the reserves rules, go to ground, all to increase their survivability.
Imo Plasmaguns are best on foot (objective orientated). Meltaguns are best Meq (anti-tank orientated).
I think I may draft a new tactica after seeing big blocks of text on that link.

That article is awesome, and almost exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, guys.

I have always loved the models for the Knights, and want to use a shooty and armored fighting force (as in a force with armor saves) as opposed to my Tyranids.

Grey Knights look cool, and have fun rules, so that is what I chose.

Again, thanks.

I had some good luck with an Inquisitor (daemon hammer, grimoire, sacred incense) leading a retinue: 3 Acolyths (storm shields), 2 Familiars, 1 Technican (boosting I).

Yeah, the Grey Knights are some of the best looking models IMO. It'd be expensive to field a full Grey Knights army, and there's not a lot of flexibility, but at the end of the day, it's all about personal prefrence I guess. Good luck with it though
