Going to tweak the list for more heavy armor for this weekend:
@1750 points
Kantor
Lysander
Sternguard 1x10 w/ combi-meltas x5, combi-plasma x1
Drop pod
Sternguard 1x10 w/ combi-meltas x5, combi-plasma x1
Drop pod
Sternguard 1x10 w/ combi-meltas x5, combi-plasma x1
Drop pod
Tac 1x10 w/ flamer, heavy bolter
Sarge w/ combi-flamer
Drop pod
Tac 1x10 w/ flamer, heavy bolter
Sarge w/ combi-flamer
Drop pod
The sternguard will combat squad and hit the mech units with meltas and power armor with plasma & rapid fire.
The tacs will combat squad, pepper with the heavy bolter and drop the flamers on horde units.
Looking to cripple the enemy with a lethal first strike. I am planning on putting Kantor and Lysander in the first wave for hth defense. This should give all the sternguard inspiring presence.
I will be playing against mech guard, mech eldar, ultras, necrons, and demon bomb. We will be playing standard missions randomly generated with bonus points from 'Ard Boyz scenarios.

Well, Lysander is not a must-have in this army. I'd replace him by a Libarian with nullzone and gate of infinity, leading a Sternguard unit. Nullzone is awesome vs Daemons and Seer Council.

Having one librarian does not cut it, two are definitely needed for the stern-gate tactic. Played against Necrons (draw) and Tyranids (win) with the librarian and he was awful. I can't give up Kantor as I need the stern-pod tactic to be scoring. The combi-plasma was a big hit, but I will put them all in one squad next time.

The downside of the list is its small model count.
Congratulations for the win vs Nids. I thought horde armies would be the biggest challenge for this kind of list. Any battle report?

True, but it packs a punch since I get to drop and shoot first. I have found that it is fairly durable all the missions. It's still 50+ marines to kill, all scoring.
The nid list wasn't so much horde, more of a stealer shock with the flyrant and MC's. No battle report, but one highlight was Lysander surviving 2 rounds with the flyrant (eternal warrior and 3+ invul. ) and killing it. Otherwise, my entire flank could have been collapsed and 2-3 KP's going to the nids. One problem that others alluded to about the combi-meltas one shot disadvantage reared it's ugly head here against the MC's. Would have been nice to have another volley later in the game. Maybe I can tweak the tacs to get some meltas instead of flamers.

Well, Sternguard has hellfire wounding on 2+. That's particularly nasty versus Dakkafexes having lower amour saves.

The hellfire was not the problem, it was the 3+/2+ saves 4/5 wound MC's being shot by AP5 bolters. Tactically, the combi-melta and hellfire proved effective enough. I was just pointing out a weakness that did reveal itself, that's all.

Seems like you could switch out the heavy bolters for missile launchers. You can use the frag template against hordes, but versus Sv3+ MCs they'll give you a reliable wound from the get-go.
