Heavy Support

Obliterator x2 150
Obliterator x2 150
Obliterator x2 150

Total 1487

Leaves a few Points for Melta-bombs, extra Weapons on Rhinos etc.

I have used a similar list for a while with less obliterators, but with the increasing appearance of Land raiders in every marine list i have had to add more anti-tank at the expense of troops.

Thanks in advance.

I think this is a good list. It doesnt have many troops though. You might want to find room for a small squad of lesser demons to deep strike and hold objectives.

I must admit that lack of troops is a concern of mine.

Unfortunately, 2 daemon princes and 6 obliterators are pretty much essential to be even semi-competitive as a chaos player.

Also 1500 is pretty much the standard in the UK which doesn't leave much spare after you have the essentials.

Maybe i could drop 2 oblits and use a cheaper daemon prince to get another troop choice, however that would give me the same anti-tank (well anti land-raider really) problems that i was having before.

How about this?

Prince w/wings, MoT, Warp, Wind = 205
Prince w/Wings, MoS, Lash = 155

8 Berserkers incl. Champ w/fist, in Rhino =243
7 Plague Marines w/2x melta, champ w/fist, in Rhino = 221
6 Noise Marines w/Blastmaster = 160
5 Noise Marines w/Blastmaster = 140

2 Oblits = 150
3 Oblits = 225

1499

The assault power’s not quite as much as the three units of Berserkers, and you lose one Oblit, but you have four troops, and the two blastmasters actually give you a net of one more AP3- blast template over the six oblit list. The blastmasters also give you two more S8 shooting options for vehicle busting, and the two meltaguns give you another viable way to hurt a landraider. IME lascannons are not what you really need for popping a landraider anyway- you need meltas.

Alternately, you could swap the second unit of Noise Marines for a unit of 5 regular CSMs with a meltagun in a Rhino. That saves you twenty points as well, which could buy you one more Berserker or four sonic blasters in the Noise Marine squad.

If Landraiders are really your concern, you might want to swap out the Berserkers for yet another unit of Plagues with meltas.

3 troop choices can work, but you need to be very carefull with it. I have run lists based around 3 squads of berzerkers many time and here is what I have found: When deploying objectives, put them all near one another and deploy opposite from them. This way, your opponent will deploy on these objectives and your CC units will have something to rush towards.

If you do not do this, then you have a pure CC unit sitting on an objective and not killing anything, which is very bad overall.

I like Mannahnin's list. It seems to cover just about everything. Having four units of troops is nice but having two more shooting oriented and two h2h is really handy.

I don't get why you would A) take blastmasters and B) have the 5 Oblits in only two squads.

What you have to consider in making this list more balanced is what exactly the role of each squad is going to be and how the rest of your army will help that squad do it's task while that squad helps the rest of your army as well. Oblits are great for that, being able to both be anti tank and anti infantry. The way I've found that works best with them is having as many squads with as few as possible, so that if one lucky shot gets off you're not wasting two others on the same target (overkilling doesn't count for jack in 40k).

The rule I usually use, which is just my personal choice and I'm not saying that you must or that it is the best, is the more smaller squads you have the better. This disperses the devestation of your oppn. fire and also, usually, makes them make various tactical errors as there are to many squads for them to choose from, thus they can't tell which one should really be the target prioity.

If you do good with the list thats all that matters. I personally never use Lash as I like to give myself a challange when I play, not trying to sound demeaning as that was all I took when I first started my new Chaos lists. But you can usually do more with less.

Played 2 games with the original list.

Game 1 was Annihilation/Dawn of war.
Game 2 was Seize Ground/Spearhead.

Won both but second game caused me problems due to there being 5 objectives.
Berzerkers are great at taking objectives but lack of firepower made holding onto them difficult.

The Obliterators worked brilliantly and are unlikely to be changed anytime soon.
The Daemon Princes also performed well, the Tzeentch prince killed 3 Marine Squads on his own before dying.

So I am going to try dropping the smaller berzerker squad and replace it with a 6 Man Noise Marine Squad with Blastmaster in a Rhino or a 5 man squad With Sonic blasters/Blastmaster in Rhino.

If you go Rhino for Noise Marines, you might also consider taking a champion with Doom Siren (and maybe power weapon) instead of the Blastmaster.

I had considered the doom siren, but i am currently in a debate with several people about firing template weapons from firing points in Rhinos.

Its a bit involved but If you pop over to the "40K you make da call" forum its somewhere near the middle of the first page at the moment.

If the debate ends up going my way then a doom siren is a definate possibility.
