I am not a big fan of the white and black theme, but a big fan of the army idea. Is there any alternate colours i could paint templars.

It's your army, feel free to paint them whatever you want!

I would recommend pairing either yellow or white w/ red, blue, or green though if I was going to do a similar project.

Use black, since that's the best way to start these. I have two ideas for you from there.

1) Highlight black with Red (you can go scab red or crimson gore over a black undercoat, do the very tips in blood red then hit the whole thing with a red or reddish brown glaze).

Then have the shoulders be Cream colored. This should look suitably different from other chapters without being too close (or too far from) the black templars. This method will look a little like Blood Ravens though, so be careful.

2) Another option you have is to use the black and white, but add a healthy amount of metallic colors to the mix (Gold, Bronze or Silver). You can do large areas in metals without it looking like a different chapter. (You should look at the Mentors chapter, but consider how you could fill those areas with Black and Gold/Silver with white shoulder pads).

If you can do the metal well, it can look wonderful, and you can also escape the plain look of Black and White without making it look like a new chapter.
