I had a rather interesting idea for an army to use against our rather crappy Tau player. I think it would be decent...

Librarian
6x10 Tactical Squads, 4 squads with melta guns, 2 with plasma guns. Sarges all have CCW
3x10 Devastator Squads, all bolters. Sarges with CCW
1x10 Assault Squad
1x7 Assault Squad

Its not a difficult concept, just run through cover. Assault squads on one side, Devvie squads on the other, and the Tacticals split evenly.
Any suggestions?

That's almost a whole Company. I'd take off the jump packs from the Assault squads so that they can run, too. Lol

Jump Infantry can't run?

I'd actualy drop the second assault squad to turn the CCW's into power fists/weapons, and try and find some points for Dedicated Transports as well.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Jump Infarnty can run.

I think this army idea is awesome, maybe a couple of dreds to take out armor and give some moving ranged support. Pretty cool idea though.

If you are going against Tau, I'd drop the Devs and take more Assault. Couldn't hurt a power fist or 2 to help with vehicles. Stays with the all marine theme.

Hmmm, I considered Dreads, but taking only one would result in it being popped by the usual Hammerhead, and 2 would be too expensive. It probably amount to little more than an expensive distraction. Though one did survive 3 rounds of shooting last time...

One Dev squad will be dropped, and power fists/weapons distributed. Plus 3 more Assault guys.

So now...

Librarian
6x10 Tactical Squads, 4 squads with melta guns, 2 with plasma guns. 3 Sarges have CCW, one has powerfist, two have power swords. One CCW Sarge has a plasma pistol and melta bombs.
2x10 Devastator Squads, all bolters. Sarges with CCW.
1x10 Assault Squad. Sarge w/powerfist
1x10 Assault Squad, 1 plasma pistol. Sarge has melta bombs

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

Dreads will get popped, transports in anything less than spamming numbers will get popped. Venerable dreads have a chance of living, and landraiders have a decent chance of living, but against tau, I'd drop the armor.

You don't have enough AT weapons in your army.

Also, sternguard are really good against tau

Thats what i thought. What would you suggest for AT? More melta? The big problem is maintaining numbers and still having enough AT. And yes, Sternguard would be nice, but the entire point of the list is a russian style human wave. Sternguard would be too expensive (less bodies) and would probably be picked out and killed quickly.

I would jiggle some pts out of it and put 10 marines in a drop pod with a melta gun and combimelta gun.

That would be that extra bit of AT you would need.

Unless that ruins your theme.

But 100 marines. Who wouldn't want to see that on a board.

Wonder how it would do against orks...

Love the idea, just might scum it from ya,
with this change, drop the plasma guns and make them las ( same cost).
Drop one assault each and add a drop pod, drop pod assault the one squad with a melta and the sarg with melta bombs, and deep strike the assault squad with the sarge melta bombs.

heres the problem though. Th entire point is to bum rush the Tau with as many warm bodies as possible. Las will only hinder the assault. Does anyone know how this sort of list will work? I really want to use it, but am tentative about losing yet another Campaign battle.
