Awhile ago, a friend gave me some of his 'nids. They were in awful condition, but over the last few months I've managed to plug away at them and come up with the following inventory:
1 Hive Tyrant @ 137 Pts
Enhanced Senses +1 BS; Toxin Sacs +1 St; Twin-linked Barbed Strangler
1 Carnifex @ 163 Pts
Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler, Enhanced Senses, Reinforced Chitin
1 Carnifex @ 113 Pts
Adrenal Glands +1 WS; Toxic Miasma; Scything Talons (x2)
6 Genestealers @ 102 Pts
Feeder Tendrils
6 Genestealers @ 102 Pts
Feeder Tendrils
16 Gaunt Brood @ 160 Pts
Devourer, Toxin Sacs
For a total of 777 points.
Obviously, this is not a super-competitive list, but I think it could be playable.
TACTICS: Half-shooty, half-smashy. Hive Tyrant sits with the Devil Gaunts, giving synapse and scaring off assaulters with its horrible MC-ness. Sniper Fex blows up scary things from a distance, while the CC fex goes HULK SMASH! and charges into the fray alongside the 'stealers. Don't know if it'll work, but hey, free army. Not gonna be too disappointed either way.
My question to the board is this: What should I spend my money on for the last 233 points I'll need to play 1000 point games? I'm thinking Warriors, but I'm uncomfortably low on troops. Spinegaunts with w/o Number, maybe?
Help!
Thanks in advance!

In 1000 pt games you dont really need 3 MCs. I think 2 is enough
I personally think you have spent too much on the gaunts. I dont give them devourers cos its a waste of their potential (2X shots). In the hands of gaunts they get 2 shots...in the hands of warriors they get 4 shots. With gaunts I find it better to keep em cheap and give them WoN. Very good objective holders.
Genestealer squads are too small. They probably wont make it into combat cos they will be the first things targeted. U could spread the remaining pts on them to max out squad sizes. Lets face it everyone hates stealers.
Ok I know U didnt ask for any of the above but hey...just some advice.
For the remaining 233 pts you should get warriors. They will draw some attention away from the stealers. Especially if you max out the squad with deathspitters and scything talons (keep em cheap, but always in cover). U could get 8 blast weapon S5 shots per turn with those guys. U dont need that many for synapse, but i love taking blast weapons.
Or another option is to get more stealers. Everyone hates em and as I said above they will be the first things to draw fire. Max out both squads is a good idea.
Good luck with it all.

My son and one of my friends play nids.
Warriors seam scary, but die way to fast.
The bane for all are those darn rippers, they can tie up any unit for turn after turn, with all of those wounds in groups of 4 to 6 can just be a pain.
Next I hated the broodlord , and cringed if it had a retinue that would infiltrate. Skip the lictors and biovores, I'd say fill the rest with your choice of gaunts.

I appreciate the advice. I agree that devilgaunts are too expensive, but they're what I've got to work with.
I was considering buying 2 boxes of Gaunts. This would give me 16 Gaunts (probably to become Spinegaunts), 16 Hormagaunts, and 2 Ripper Swarms (though to be honest, there are enough rippers floating around in this mess for me to do 3 bases, probably).
Thoughts?

Horrific Hive Tyrant

i would get 2 boxes of gaunts to build numbers.
2 boxes of warriors (with deathspitters, 1 with barbed strangler) for some fire support.
that gives you a nice ammount of troops and some support.
a broodlord might fit in well too.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor. |
