Hi,

Checking lists for an upcoming tournament.

One player is using the new Space Marines with Witch Hunter allies.

As part of his list he is buying a Space Marine LR (with extra armour - 265 pts). He has indicated that he wants to use this to transport the WH Inquisitor Lord and retinue. There is an option to buy a dedicated LR for the Inquisitor Lord (with extra armour - 255 points) but I'm guessing he wants the better BS of the SM variant.

Now my question is:

Can he use the SM Land Raider for the WHs?

My initial thoughts were "no" - because the two entities are from different Force Organisations.

However I'm interested in the thoughts of others.

Cheers

plc

Depends if the SM 'dex says "May carry 10 Space Marines" or "May carry 10 models"

I can't see why not? He will need to purchase the LR from the FOC however.

Remember its a transport vehicle so it can transport models regardless if its a Dedicated transport or not.

And on a side note
From WH FAQ:
"Machine Spirit: If the tank suffers a Crew Stunned
result, it may still move directly ahead, up to its
maximum speed. The Machine Spirit may operate
one weapon per turn at BS2 as long as the
vehicle has moved no further than 6", ignoring
Crew Shaken or Crew Stunned results. This is in
addition to any weaponry it can normally fire."

Imho is better

If he is using the allies rule, he is not using multiple FOC charts -- just one.

He can certainly use the space marine land raider to transport his Inquisitor Lord and friends, though it will take up a heavy support slot. Make sure he has his HQ and 2 troop selections filled from the SM codex as well. It's important to note that a WH ordaemonhunter army cannot take a LRC or LRR as part of the allies system, as they're not on the list, only the 'space marine land raider' is.

If the parent list is the new space marines, he may have 1 hq, 1 elite, 2 troops, and 1 fast attack selection from the WH codex. No heavy support, and you can only have allies from 1 other codex at a time. Beyond these rules, all units, transports, psychic powers, etc. work as written, and there's no longer any distinction between which codex the units came from. Generally speaking.

Oh, and for the record, I like the new PotMS vs. the old one. You lose the movement (means nothing with extra armour) but your 1 gun fires at BS4, can fire on a different target and you can even fire through your own smoke launchers (some people may contest that opinion, but most people I know play it that way.)

regarding the second point, from the latest Daemonhunters FAQ

Q. Can Daemonhunters be taken as allies in an army that also has Witch Hunter allies?
A. Yes, Daemonhunter and Witch Hunter units may both be taken as allies in the same army.

also, I don't get this "must take up a heavy support slot" concept. What stops them from hopping in a terminator's transport land raider? Or do you just mean that it can't be taken as the Inquisitor Lord's transport?

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

If you buy a Land Raider Redeemer from the Heavy Slot FoC of a parent Marine List, you can place inside it any model or squad that wouldn't have rules prohibiting it from using a transport.

If the vehicle is a dedicated transport, then you can only put into it the unit that the dedicated transport was bought for.

Correction: You can only Deploy it with the unit that it was bought for embarked inside. Once the game starts, any unit can hitch a ride inside of it, though only one unit at a time however.
