ive just started painting up my blood angels, and i thought i need some death company, i like them too much for the odd unit so ive decided to pretty much use them as a detatchment.
ill be using the basc marne dex, so they will all be standard marines just painted as BA and DC.

idea:

basic BA army, but with a few DC things with them (functions as normal just diff. colour)

DC = death company

DC dreadnought
2 DC assult squads (no jump packs)
1 DC CC temie squad
tycho (painted as death company) ive seen him painted like this before, and it looks amazing.
and possibly some DC transports aswell.

its all for looks and not for game purpose.
im aware i need to tell my opponent this as he may suffer from heart failure when he see's that much DC on the board.

just wanted some thoughts on it, and if it even makes sense
i was going to go with a pure DC army, ut decided it wouldnt look right.

ive used assult squads without jump packs for the DC since it seems more fitting.

and now im hoping a BA dex isnt released and i have to paint alot of D back as normal BA.

I'm not sure why you're not just using the Blood Angels Codex and adding regular Death Company.

Is it to use the new marine dex?

I was going to do something similar with the 4th ed marine codex. But what I was going to do was use Veteran Assault Squads as Death Company. Paint their armour black, and use them as printed in the codex.

If you're using the 5e codex, there is no reason you couldn't use Sternguard or the other veteran option as DC. I would select a unit that is fairly unique, and fits the DC background. I wouldn't "mix" DC tacticals and regular tacticals (avoids confusion).

i dont want to build an army to the BA structure since it will be changed, i rather stick with a solid list for now.

that and BA tac squads are 25 points more (adds a free death company model)

Sternguard are a shooting unit, DC run in with pistols and CC weps.
Vanguard would work, but too costly point wise.

What makes you think it'll be changed?

I've used the same models for my BA army from 3rd ed through 5th. The only thing I've had to change was using less of some things (DC) and more of others (tacticals, assault squads).

I think Vanguard would be a better choice, reflecting their BP/CCW. Yes they are expensive, but DC by all accounts are small in number, elite, and rather specialized.

Oh, I got it. I re-read your initial post. You're basically making a DC army. The only downside is the lack of close combat weapons in tactical squads.

I like the idea overall. There were rules in 3rd edition, iirc, for a DC Army. They allowed you to field your normal models as "DC" arguing since the whole army turned, they wouldn't have time to paint their armor black. I can't remember the book, it was one of the GW compilations (from WD) back several years ago.

Fluff wise I think this sounds really cool, like the final battle the final battle he fought in when he succumbed to the Black Rage, hope you post pics of the painted army.
