Does a CSM LR use up a heavy selection in the FOC if bought as a dedicated transport?

No.

It can only be bought as a dedicated transport for units that have that option, however, like Chaos Terminators.

And only if the codex doesn't override the BRB... the BRB defines Dedicated Transports, and further establishes they don't use a FOC choice. However the new SM Codex re-iterates this so if, for example, the next BRB stated Dedicated DO take FOC choices, SM choices still wouldn't... while I doubt there's any codex like that, its something to make sure of given how... spotty... GW can be with their logic.

Take a small contingent of Termies ( or large one if you desire ). Deploy the LR at the start of the game but keep the termies in reserve to DS later. Nothing says they have to start the game w/ their dedicated transport.

Technically it's like having a 4th Hvy slot opened up to you.

Birmingham, England.

I was under the impression that a even though squads can now use each others transports, you still had to deploy both the unit and its transport at the same time.

You don't have to deploy them at the same time unless they are coming onto the board together, which is a choice. If they go into reserve you dictate at that time whether mounted or not and if not mounted you have to roll for each unit seperately.

When you are deploying you can deploy neither, or 1 or both, but note that a squad in it's transport are still technically 2 units (particularly important in dawn of war)

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).
