I have never played warhammer 40k and right now i am just collecting and painting guys. I have no idea what i need or what I should add. I just read the IG codex and warhammer rule book.

My friends play tyranids, Chaos space Marines and Black Templars.

Any and All adivce would be awesome since I dont know what I'm doing. These are all the pieces I own at the moment.

First id lose the priest, he wont do much good and forces your squad into melee combat, which is bad.

Also id lose the side sponsons on the Russ tanks, iv found sponsons to be marginally useful, and only if you get a weapon destroyed and dont move.

That gives you back 65 pts....which id buy another infantry squad with.
I assume one of you current infantry squads is in the chimera as an armored fist squad? I would lose the HW in this squad, and try to use it to cap objectives, which means itl be moving when not in transport and the HW would be sorta useless, give it to the new squad you bought or something. Personally i hardly ever use HW in infantry squads, but i know alot of IG players might. I prefer relegating them to support squads and use my infantry to run for objectives.

Basic advice for IG.

1. Close Combat is bad. Willfully going into CC will wreck your army. Shoot the bejeezus out of stuff first.

2. Close Order Drill is frickin' brilliant now. I know, sort of contradicts my first point, but the defensive consolidation rules means that not taking it for the enevitable CC would be folly.

3. Tanks! Awesomeness! Or Heavy weapons, but either way, a Guard army lives on it's heavy weapons.

4. Men! 100 plus Guardsmen is a mighty sight. Lots of flashlight shots.

OK first of all ignore all the advice before me becuase if these people actualy play guard they would of noticed its illegal, you only have 1 troop choice

if you give me the things you want to do with your army. horde, gunline, mech or drop il write you up a fun or comp list.

also mortars are the worse weapon period

2 command squads, 3 infantry squads and an chimera.....looks quite legal to me. one infantry and and the chimera make an armored fist squad....which i mentioned in my post.

Mortars are decent. People seem to forget how much an SOB pinning can be.

Chimeras are not meant to move they are IFV or pillboxes. for and guard game i take a template then modify it to taste.

Junior officer, iron disipline, honorifica imperialis , standard 81- this provides a strong core LD.

Junior officer- 4 meltas 80
Squad autocannon plasma gun 85
Squad autocannon plasma gun 85

junior officer 4 meltas 80
Squad autocannon plasma gun 85
Squad autocannon plasma gun 85

581 points. for a 1500 game id add another platoon 3 hellhounds and 2 russes with full heavy bolters

that gives you 3 suicide melta squads
good horde thining and good light vehicle fire and 14 spare points

im not saying it is a effective list but its a good core and should be fun to play/ play against

interesting army glowgos, tbf with the new template rules i would drop the plasmas from the squads and go for missile launchers as your getting the best of both worlds the 2rd platoon should be equipped with as many plasma guns as possible as it gives you 2 platoons with anti veh/horde firepower and another platoon that runs forward to claim objectives and shoot, i would also drop all the heavy bolters aswell on the russ and see if you can fit in an extra russ so in 1500 that gives you 3 Russ, 3 Hellhounds, 75men + Command Platoon

When you give total control to a computer, it’s only a matter of time before it pulls a Skynet on you and you’re running for your life.

I know its illegal, these are all I own at the moment. I dont plan on fighting with it, Its incomplete and I am wondering what I need to finish it.

I need to get a couple more squads of shock troops. to have another infantry platton for my second troop selection.

I am going to be primarly fighting tyranids, black templars and chaos space marines. So I need to lay down as much fire power before they get to me.

Lose the Priest....yeah can't go wrong there, really think that guy needs to be removed from the IG codex as he's an insult to IG players everywhere.

Also i'd probably lose the vox casters. you only have 1 squad that might need it, The Armored fist squad, as your other troop squads are going to be sitting right next to the command squad anyway.....or should be anyway. And your troops only have flammers, not heavy flamers. I wish they could be given heavy flamers. Not sure if you have them and forgot to post it but your officers need pistols, I'd suggest Bolt pistols.

Don't forget about the Doctrines in the back of the IG codex. Pick some good ones. Extra armor on the chimera and smoke on all vehicles except the sentinals

I'd also look at buying a Basilisk. they don't have much for armor but are cheap pie-plates that can pound a tank as well as mobs. Don't forget Barrage weapons hit side armor.

you CAN take heavy flamers in your regular line squads...IF...you take the jungle fighters doctrine. it costs 10 points per squad to do it, and then you pay 15 points to give your heavy weapon team a heavy flamer. also you cant take lascannons if you use the jungle fighter doctrine, and your armor saves get knocked down to 6+ instead of the normal 5+.

There are other benefits and such to this doctrine. but if you wanna take heavy flamers in your line squads thats how you do it. Check out page 56 of the IG codex for more info.

With TLOS, it's much too easy to pick out a Basilisk in the crowd. 4+ cover saves only go so far, and if they get a "weapon destroyed" result, it's the same as the vehicle destroyed or explodes, save for a kill point they're not getting.

thats true, but if you have a decent amount of cover, you can park the basilisk way in back, completely hidden (behind a building or hill works quite well.)

then give it the indirect fire upgrade, and you get several turns of dropping pie plate goodness on the enemy.

that is of course until they drive underneath its min range, which an opponent with any speed is going to do relatively quickly

In which case you drive around the cournor and start raining in direct fire. buying the indirect fire gives you the Option of firing indirect doesn't mean you have to.

EXACTLY Aleis. Thank you. And of course thats also assuming the enemy thats speeding in is gonna get through all the static defense squads out in front. It's not like the basilisk is the only thing on the field of play.

I personally love that damn thing!
