My Tyranid army has been pushed to the back of queue and on the back burner. Recently I had been toying with to sell them or not as I had gone off them. So to get back in the mood i "convinced" my missus to have Ultramarines and I pumped up my Tyranids with bio morphs to make a shakey 1,500 list. A classic match up is coming.

I cannot remember all the bio morphs I put on for the tyranids, so will leave them off.

Game is annilation and kill points.

Tyranids

Hive Tyrant - wings, twin linked devourers

Broodlord w/ 6 Genestealers

4 x Warriors - 2 warriors w/ talons & claws, 1 w/ 2 x talons & 1 w/ twin linked devourers

1 x Lictor

18 x Gaunts w/ fleshborers

12 x Hormagaunts

2 x Ravenors

2 x Carnifex's w/ barberd strangler & venom cannon

Ultramarines

1 x Captain - plasma pistol & power weapon

1 x Chaplin

10 x Marines - melta gun - sgt w/ plasma pistol and ccw

10 x Marines - multimelta & plasma pistol - sgt w/ boltgun

10 x Marines - plasma gun & plasma cannon - sgt w/ bolt pistol & ccw

10 x Assault Marines - plasma gun - sgt w/ bolt pistol & power weapon

10 x Assault Marines - drop pod - sgt w/ bolt pistol & power weapon

1 x Predator - twin linked lascannon turret, lascannon secondary weapons

1 x Vindicator

It had been reported that a strand of a Tyranid fleet, Hive Fleet Gorgon had made contact with the planet of Tathlos. Ultramarines were despatched to purge the planet of any xeno traces. Majority of the force had landed via Thunderhawk outside a small town and made there way in on foot, while the Captain and Chaplin remained in low orbit in the battle barge ready to drop into combat via drop pod. The industrial town was in ruin from defence against the Tyranids, with no human remains visible. Disgusting Tyranid growths pulsed from the ground and climbed up buildings like spidery vines as spore towers pointed to the sky.

Wings like a daemon blotted out the sun as parts of Hive Fleet Gorgon made its appearance. Rumours were true about their appearance, the black shells reflected the sun light as the dull grey brownish skin conflicted with the dusty roads.

Round 1

Marines rolled to go first, the captain and chaplin were in reserve with the assault squad in the drop pod. All marines moved forward including the Vindicator. The Assault marines with jump packs at the edge of a central ruin, but were supported by the melta squad for a-far, the vindicator was supported by the multimelta/plasma squad while the plasma squad moved forward into a ruin for cover and to get the plasma cannon into range. The predator fired its lascannons and scored 3 wounds on one of the carnifex's, reducing it to 2 wounds. The Assault squad spotted the Lictor and fired what they could within LOS, but scored no wounds.

All Tyranids used the run move, except the 'Fex's which held position. The Tyrant was supported with the Warriors and Horamgaunts, while the Ravenors supported the Broodlord and Genestealer brood. The large Gaunt brood was in between the two 'Fex's, but still in synapse range of the Broodlord. The Lictor had taken up position in a central ruin, the Ravenors and Broodlord moved into the ruin ready to attack the on coming Assault Marine squad in the next phase. The 'Fex's were both unlucky and out of range by 1 inch, so lost a round of shooting. The Ravenors charged into combat against the Assault squad due to the beast special rule, but scored no wounds on the Marines but received a wound themselves.

Round 2

The drop pod tried for the reserve roll, but failed. The plasma Marine squad held position and fired on the oncoming Gaunt horde, the plasma cannon landed on target and kill 3 Gaunts, the rest of the squad fired and reduced the numbers even more. The melta squad moved in and fired on the Gaunt horde, reducing the numbers down to just 8! The Vindicator fired at the Tyrant landing on target but failed to score a wound, the multimelta fired and managed to score a wound while the rest of the squad fired with bolt fire and plasma, though the bolter fire scored no wounds after saves and the plasma gunner was killed by the gets hot rule! The Predator fired at the same Carnifex as before claiming its last 2 wounds and giving the Marines a lead in the kill points. In combat the Assault marines took 1 wound and the Ravenors took 1 wound resulting in a draw.

The single 'Fex fired at the Predator, at least hoping to glance and score a crew shaken result, though it failed to even score a glancing result. The Gaunts are now in range and fire at the plasma squad and scored 3 kills. The Tyrant charge the Vindicator while the Hormagaunts and Warriors followed in its foot steps, though the Tyrant didn't manage to glance the Vindicator's armour. The Broodlord and Genestealers charge the melta squad reducing them to 5 and receiving no wound themselves. The Lictor charges into combat with the Ravenors, though the Marines batter the Ravenors and consolidate through the ruin towards the Hormagaunt brood.

Sergeant Terros of Assault squad Terros blasted forward with his jump pack, flying through the air like a blue angel. His squad followed him as he smashed into the ground. From the corner of his eye he could see some scaled monster move in the darkness of the ruins.

"Target spotted. Marines open fire!" ordered Terros

The Marines blasted the creature, but it disappeared into the darkness and was unsure if it was wounded. The squad though had more things to worry about, a brood of vile Genestealers with four long arms with razor sharp claws appeared led by a more bigger and slightly different creature. Also along them was two snake like creatures with shells black as night reflecting the sun and their plae grey brownish skin on their four arms ending with long stabbing talons. The snake beasts moved rapidly and pounced onto the Assault Marines as Terros fired up his power weapon

Round 3

The melta squad uses combat tactics and falls back out of combat with the Broodlord and 'Stealers, they fall back 12". The drop pod makes the reserve roll and falls from the sky, it scatters back onto the melta squad, so is moved back towards its original target, in front of the Broodlord & 'Stealers. The Captain, Chaplin and Assault squad without packs fire on the Genestealers and Broodlord, killing 2 'Stealers. The Predator fires at the last Carnifex but only scores 2 wounds. The Assault squad fire at the Hormagaunts and charge into combat, scoring 4 wounds and taking 2 themselves. The melta squad fire at the Lictor in the open killing it the meltagun and scoring another kill point. The Vindicator fires at the Warriors in the distance landing on target and scoring 4 wounds after cover saves as the Hive Tyrant as blocking the shot partially. The multimelta squad fires at the Tyrant, the multimelta misses and leaves jsut the rapid fire power of bolters to kill it, they manage to roll 4 6's and after saves the Hive tyrant is destroyed and giving a 3-0 on kill points.

The Carnifex fires the venom cannon at the plasma squad scoring one wound though the barbed strangler scatters 7" inch and misses. The Warriors charge in against the Assault squad along with the Hormagaunts, in the bloody battle the Hormagaunts are destroyed but so are the Assault squad, the Warriors then consolidate into the ruin. The Broodlord and Genestealers charge into combat scoring 4 wounds, though all Genestealers and slaughtered along with the Broodlord giving a 5-0 lead. The Captain, Chaplin and remaining Marines consolidated 4".

The roar of rocket engines is heard over heard and a big large blue object falls from the sky. Squad Dalvisso armed with the meltagun fall back from combat with the Genestealer horde and the mutated leader beast as the drop pod clears from the clouds and smashes into the ground where they once stood. The giant doors spread open like a new born flower as Assault squad Dassours emerges with a mighty Chaplin clad in black armour and the Captain of the company.

"For the Emperor!" shouts the Captain as he fires up his power weapon and open fires with his mighty plasma pistol as the core glows green.

The rest of the squad open fire as the Chaplin shouts words of hate of prayers encouraging the squad to slaughter the xenos before them

Round 4

The Predator fires at the Carnifex but only scores 1 wonud reducing it down to 2 remaining. The Captain, Chaplin and the remaining assault squad fire on the Warriors killing one and then charge into combat. The melta squad also moves into combat with the Warriors. After a mass of attacks the Captain and Chaplin suffer one wound each, while the remaining 6 and torn to pieces with rending and talons. The battle now endures with the melta squad, they doi much better receiving 2 wounds but manage to wipe out the Warriors.

Winner Marines 7-1

This report is written very well, but pictures could help readers to understand the battle. Lictors always deep strike according to their rules. That's all I have to say.

Nice right up.

Your friend who played the Ultramarines cheesed you a little bit. In the drop pod rules it say that half of the drops rounding up MUST come in on the first turn. So that drop pod should have come in on the first turn. This would have helped you at the beginning of the game.

Sorry, should have said the Lictor did start the game using the secret deployment rules. It was in the centre ruin.

I actually asked this question in a GW shop prior to this game and they said one drop pod can stay in reserve, if its just one. Though according to the rules it says it must come on.

I thought as much, but as it was a friendly game doesn't matter too much.

Because we Nids have very little that can overcome pwer armor. It's very frustrating. I have never beaten a Marine player, or even come close to it.

I do find Tau awfully tasty though.

What do you mean don't exist? They're in the tyranid codex.
