I think running a ton of sentinels with heavy flamers so they can flank march would be very good : )

12 flank marching heavy flamers is good
I think its even better then the deep striking elites.

I like the army alot. It seems very able to handle a number of opponents. I'm glad you lost the Vox, and I'm glad you picked up some lascannons. The demolisher is a good thing as well.

I'm curious why you made the banner regimental, rather than the cheaper one that gives the LD re-roll and forgets the melee part.

Lascannons in command squads ties them down quite a bit. imo, they need to stay mobile to provide a good LD bubble where it's needed. A better place for a lascannon, would be a Hardened Vet squad. The reason for this, is so they can infiltrate, putting them exactly where you need them, and they have bs4, reducing the chance of wasting the 25pt cannon.

just my opinion

I think your right about the standard. If im being assaulted and need that +1 im prolly screwed anyhow.

If i take hardened vets and drop then in a chimera, can they outflank WITH the chimera?

if it works like that it kind of makes me dream of a fully outflanking jungle fighters army of armored fist squads

Well i for one always upgrade my Company banner to the regimental banner. And It has saved the day more than once against a couple different orc armies I've fought. you get all the benefits of the company standard, plus the +1 to combat resolution (which is what saved my arse).

Also, i dont see why you are not taking any doctrines. Sure you dont have to take any.....but then again you don't have to take any special weapons or heavy weapons in your line squads either. At a minimum, Close order drill and drop troops are FREE doctrines, in that they dont cost you any points. And you don't have to use them, but its nice to have the benefits of them should you want to exercise them. there are several good doctrines that are nothing more than tools/options to enhance your army.

IMHO, not using doctrines is unnecessarily handicapping your army. There is a very good article on IG tactics in the tactics forum i believe. I would really look through it.

found the link to the article written by H.B.M.C......

i highly recommend any new guard player read it. Some of the things have changed slightly with 5th edition, but there have been notes attached where 5th edition changes are needed.

a great IG doctrine article

<edit: got the link to work properly>

Another take on the doctrines is that they will be gone with the new dex and replaced with something else. So why buy things based on them. I am currently doing a paint and play league using one of every available unit so i will have choices later on. What sucks now might be the new hottness later.

I like your army and don't think spaming anything at this point is wise because of the new dex on the way. However line troops are always a safe bet. But don't rule out things like ratlings they surprised me and are my current mvp. They can do quite well in a army list like yours.

A suggestion is go with vet sarges for the leadership and cheap command squads. Motors on those pesky command squads will give your opponents headaches when they are hiding behind your tanks and pinning squads all game. Plus makes them effective when hiding in kill point games, they are worth 2 after all. It will also free up points to add Ratlings, Extra sentinels, hellhound possibly (Great Unit) or even motor squads (Nasty).

Also i would think about putting melta guns in the drop squads instead of plasma. Lascannons have a bit more trouble dealing with armor 13 and 14 now with 5th edition. I would recommend half your plasma becoming melta actually. Kills marines dead and doubles for armor killing power. Not to mention wont kill your own guys. Plus it will save you some points for other goodies and will save you money when you buy the blister packs as they will all get used.

If you replace your lascannons with heavy bolters on your Russes you will have even more points. With cover the way it is 3 heavy bolters do just fine when your battle cannon gets shot off and it will, OFTEN. Shoot troops with them and you will be just fine.

Great list. Hope this helps tighten it up a bit. But it really is good as is with no changes.
