I am working up to a 2,250 list and I am wondering if some of the more elite dwarves units such as Ironbreakers and Hammerers can do alright in units of 15 instead of more. What do you guys think about that?
Here is my 2,250 list and I am looking for a way to get some hammerers in there.
Lord, shieldbearers, GW, Ro Kragg, Ro Stone, Ro Snorri, Ro Spite
Runesmith, GW, Ro Stone, 2x Ro Spellbreaking
Thane, BSB
Thane MRo Swiftness, Ro Stone, Ro Cleaving, Oath Stone
20 Longbeards, Shields, Full Command
20 Warriors, shields, Full Command
10 Thunderers, shields
10 Quarrelers, shields
18 Warriors, GW, no command
Cannon, engineer
2 Bolt Thrower, engineers
20 Ironbreakers, full command
Organ Gun
Any advice? I would like to get Hammerers in there so I was thinking of taking the units that will have a special character down by 1 to have a couple of points extra (only 19 Longbeards for example). Thanks!

if you want hammerers drop that unit of warriors with no command and fit a unit in if you have the Lord in that unit and then the thane with the Oath Stone in the Iron Breakers you should have two very tough units

Dropping the warriors and a couple other minor things would get me 15 Hammerers. Do you think a squad of 15 will be alright?

Hammerers are Stubborn, right? If so, 15 will certainly be sufficient.

Yes 15 will be enough especially with your lord in the group. Just watch out for missile fire.

I am not so sure,
Dwarve blocks usually win by not dying and winning through combat res (they kill 1-2 per turn)
A block of 15 will never win any combats, even with a lord
you are surrendering 2 combat res right off the bat.
The trouble with dwarves is they have nobody to support, so those hammerers will have to hang out quite a while before help arrives.

How are they sacrificing 2 combat res a turn? Wouldn't it only be one to drop from 20 to 15? Also, I think the Lord would be able to kill 2 a turn by himself considering he will have 2+ to hit, 2+ to wound.

I would certainly take the 15 hammerers, and give them a rune of battle on their standard. That way you are getting a static res of 4, which is what you'd be getting from 20 in the first place, for less points.

Another option is to use the Rune of Stoicism on the hammerer unit banner. It doubles your unit strength. If you can absorb a charge losing say 4 dwarfs (entire front line except for Lord) you still have a unit strength of over 20 for purposes of combat resolution (you lose the extra rank bonus but have the potential to outnumber). Combine this with a rune that gives you an additional +1 to combat resolution and you should be OK. Just try not to be targeted by large infantry units.
