I got bored last night and needed a chill out and decided to have a game of Warhammer on my own as the missus refused to play - so tactics out the window! lol .

The forces of Ultramarines had destroyed a segment of a Tyranid hive fleet, Gorgon, which various Tyranid bio pods had landed onto the planet of Tathlos. The Ultramarines has easily slayed the vile xenos however all civillian life of the small town they battled in had already been consumed by the Tyranids.

A unit of scouts who had gone ahead to the next settlement reported back a few days later that forces of Chaos Marines had been looting the town they were positioned at. They had engaged in a small battle and were retreating back to the main company, however the forces of Chaos were Iron Warriors and were a large warband salvaging anything remaining from the Tyranid attacks.

The Iron Warriors were led by two brothers, Gogh a powerful Warsmith clad in terminator armour, and Ferrus whose form had been changed to resemble a Daemon Prince after possession by a powerful Daemon. When the Daemon released Ferrus he gave Gogh the prophecy that Gogh and Ferrus will be destroyed by the Angels of Death from Ultramar, the Ultramarines. Would it come true this day?


Game

Kill points & objective - By the end turn chaos must have more forces behind the barricade than marines.

Round 1

Chaos rolled to go first. Both Vindicators were positioned together and moved in between two ruins closing the gap, unfortunately they was a inch short of both firing onto the Ultramarine Vindicator. Both Rhinos moved forward with the Daemon Prince taking cover behind the CCW Chaos Marine Rhino. All other Marines on foot used the run move as the Defiler provided long range fire power with the battle cannon and killed 4 Ultramarines from the melta squad.

Ultramarines moved forward to hold the barricade. The remaining melta squad and assault squad held the right side, while the autocannon Predator and plasma cannon squad held the left by the ruin with a entrance. The other Ultramarines held the centre. The lascannon Predator fired onto one of the Vindicators but failed to score a glancing hit. The Vindicator fired at the CSM melta squad and killed 6. The Sternguard used the 30" range ammo (can't remember what it is) and managed to kill 2 from the plasma Chaos Marine squad. The autocannon from the Predator blasts at the Chosens Rhino side armour and destroys it, 1-0 kill point lead to Ultramarines!

Round 2

The two Vindicators moved forward, one open fired on the Sternguard it scattered and missed. The other Vindicator fired at the multimelta Marines and killed 4. The Daemon Prince flies in and charges into combat with the multimelta squad, but after re-rolls only kills 2. The multimelta squad then use combat tactics and fall back. The CCW Chaos Marines exit the Rhino which pulls up right by the entrance to the barricade and enter, they fire on plasma cannon Marines and make 2 kills. The plasma Chaos Marines come within rapid fire range of melta Marines and manage to reduce them just to 4 remaining! The Chosen move forward and manage to kill 2 Assault marines, but are out of charge range.

The Sternguard use vengenace rounds on the Daemon Prince suffering 4 wounds themselves and reducing the Prince down to 2 wounds. The multimelta squad fires, the plasma gunner suffers a wound due to the gets hot rule, though the multimelta and bolter fire manage to kill the Daemon Prince and give a 2-0 lead. The Assault squad fire and charge the Chosen, they take 2 wounds leaving them with just 6 members of the unit, but destroy the Chosen making the score 3-0. The melta squad fire on the approaching Chaos Marine plasma squad and kill a few. The lascannon Predator fires at a Vindicator and destroys it (4-0), The Vindicator fires at the Chaos Marines with just bolters and kills 4. The Predator with the autocannon and plasma cannon Marines reduce the oncoming CCW Iron Warriors down to just 4! The drop pod with the jump pack-less Assault squad, Chaplin & Captain lands behind the Chaos Marines bolter squad, they disembark and open fire leaving just 4 survivors.

Round 3

Chaos rolls for reinforcements but fails. The bolter Chaos Marines open fire on the Chaplin & Captain Assault squad and score 2 kills. The CCW Chaos Marines open fire on the plasma cannon marines scoring a few kills and then charge in, leaving just 2 remaining and taking 1 wound themselves - the plasma cannon Marines use combat tactics and break from combat. The last Vindicator is unable to fire as everything is either out of range, LOS or too close to its own units (not that it should both chaos!) The Defiler fires across the board at the multimelta squad but misses. The plasma Iron Warriors fire on the Assault squad and make 2 kills.

The Marine Vindicator turns to fire on the three remaining CCW Iron Warriors if required, though the remaining plasma cannon squad and Sternguard finish them off making a 5-0 massive lead! The Assault squad fire and assault the Iron Warrior plasma squad, reducing them down to 3, but they pass the morale test and remain in combat. The Captain, Chaplin and Assault squad don't bother firing and charge straight into combat, though even after re-rolls one Iron Warrior remains! Though the IW fails its morale test and is destroyed by sweeping advance, the Marines don't both to move for consolidation as they only rolled a 1 :(.

Round 4

The Chaos Lord and Terminators deep strike successfully behind the Captain, Chaplin and Assault marines and open fire scoring a wound on the Captain and killing another 2 Marines. The Chaos Vindicator spots the weak side armour of the imperial Vindicator, it fires but scatters back towards it and misses. The Defiler moves forward and fires on the four remaining melta Marines but misses all shots with the reaper cannon and havoc launcher, it charges into combat and destroys the unit making it 6-0. The three remaining plasma squad Iron Warriors battle the Assault squad, scoring 2 kills themselves and only loosing one - the Marines use combat tactics and fall back ready to charge in again.

The Ultramarine Terminators deep strike behind the Chaos Lord and Terminators but scatter 7" towards the Defiler, they open fire on the Chaos Terminators and score 1 kill. The Captain, Chaplin and Assault squad charge in, the Chaos Lord rolls a 3 for the daemon weapon and kills 3 Marines but takes a wound itself from the Captain. The Captain and Chaplin take another wound each and another 3 Marines are killed.

Round 5

The Chaos Vindicator moves forward and fires on the remaining plasma cannon squad it scatters and misses. The Defiler fires at the Ultramarine Terminators scoring no kills and charges in, it fails to score any wounds and is destroyed itself making the score 6-1. In combat the Captain and Chaplin are both slayed (6-3) and the Assault squad take no wounds but use combat tactics to fall back. The two Chaos plasma squad members rapid fire the Assault squad scoring several kills leaving just two left.

The game is finished at this point due to Terminator : Sarah Connor chronicles been on - no doubt Ultramarines had won the day on kill points and held the objective. The boys in blue had won two games in a row, un-usual for them with the old codex at least.
