I can remember going to tournaments where everyone had brought a themed, fun, interesting list, not just graviton guns and conversion beamers and macro cannons and virus bombs and all-Jokaero armies. Sheesh.

So anyhow, I'm going to a tourney next weekend and don't have time to paint 1850 points of orks to a standard I'll be pleased with as I'm away this weekend. So I thought, time to dust off the Salamanders successor-chapter nonsense I put together last year and give it a shot. But I don't want to go with some silliness that'll be no fun to play against. What's the point? We're grownups (or nearly) playing with toy soldiers on a Saturday afternoon.

Enough ado about nothing. Here's the list - I'd like it to still be competitive, so tear it apart. But I'm not taking three land raiders, or 30 sternguard, or suchlike. My plan for this army is to have a whole lot of options and not be a gunline especially. Cheers!

Vaguely Young Man With A Cane

10 scouts - cc, bp, vet with power fist and melta bombs
10 Tac - melta, multi melta, vet with pfist
10 Tac - melta, multi melta, vet with pfist
10 Tac - melta, multi melta, vet with pfist

8 Devastators - 4 heavy bolters
10 Sternguard - vet with melta bombs

McPedro - I'm fielding him as a different named character, just haven't found a good name. I like the conversion I did for him too much not to give him a try.

10 Assault Marines, sans jump packs, vet with pair of lightning claws, melta bombs

Land Raider - multi melta

Now, I could be wrong. Maybe this list would be no fun to play against. And maybe it's not competitive. So tear it apart boyos! It's what you're good at

It a good armylist
but with all multi-melta and meltagun
with tanks, you have no chance
with infantry you can win (a lot of anti-tank weapons)

I hadn't considered that this army might have trouble with tanks. It's all stubborn, per Pedro, so it'll get close with either melta guns or multimeltas. The only thing I'd have trouble with are necron Monoliths, and that's what melta bombs are for. And immobilized results. And the land raider maybe.

I do plan to run this army across the board if necessary. Killing that many space marines won't be a picnic. And I like the idea of assault marines pouring out of a land raider with Pedro leading the charge.

I hope you're not planning on getting penetrating hits on a monolith with a melta bomb... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/222060.page

Hmm. I appreciate where you're coming from with melta weapons, and the new codex printing is very clear on weapons themselves. But grenades need to be specified, in my opinion. They're hardly weapons except for tankbusting purposes, and melta bombs are certainly not melta weapons. Hmm.

It's my hope that they'll remove the Living Metal rule, as it seems really overpowered for my orks, especially. We've got to launch a warboss at a skimmer and hope for the best. Or zzap guns, which are pretty god-awful rubbish still.

Just my two cents. Thanks for directing me to that ruling.
