Is it possible to make a harlequin-themed list in 5th edition? I was researching this and (finally) figured out that in 4th edition they were removed as a separate army and can only be taken as an elite choice in a standard eldar army. But in searching the forum I can't find a recent list heavily using them.

I'm assuming the max you could take of "actual" harlequins is the 3 elite slots. But how else could you at least pretend to have harlequin units? Jet bikes (using normal rules) but modelled as harlequins? What about for HQ?

Just wondering if anyone has had ideas about this, if they could post them or point me in the direction of a resource to use a harlequin army in 5th edition. I did see the EO codex, but I'm wondering if there is a more official way, or if that is the only/best way to go.

Thanks!!!

Edit: Just to clarify the question (I asked quite a few) I am wondering if there is any way, such as- is the Citadel Journal codex for them still legal to use? Or not, but it meshes enough with the new rules that it could be used with an opponent's permission? Or is it better to go with a "counts-as" with the Eldar Codex, or even one of the unofficial codexes?

With something like this you would probably have to do a bit of converting to make a fully harlequin themed army. Some things I have seen are jetbikes or vehicles with harlequin faces on them. In fact for some good conversion ideas check out Redbeard's eldar army in the articles:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Craftworld_Im-Bolc:__Redbeard%27s_Eldar

In addition for an HQ conversion idea check out this farseer created by Augustus:

As for an actual list though I can't help you there, but it will probably have to be a few models that are "count as" units.

Thanks for the links!

That's what I'm really wondering- what the best way to do an actual list is: i.e., "counts as", still using the original Citadel Journale codex (if it's still valid at all... which it seems like it might not be), or using one of the custom online codexes... which is probably the least desirable option, unless there is one that is widely accepted by players to use.

Anybody doing something like this or know of someone doing it?

Probably your best bet would be to take 3 Harlequin Squads, model an Autarch (or farseer) to look like a Harlequin, and take jetbikes/ Wraithlords using the Harlequin faceplate.

There's also nothing stopping you from modeling wings on Harlequins for Swooping Hawks, giving them all Fusion Blasters and Fire Dragon heads and using them as Fire Dragons, etc.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

That's cool... a little less than I'd hoped for, though :/

Was wondering if there were any harlequin army owners on here that still use their whole force (solitaires, etc) somehow, say with an opponent's permission, or even someone who just regularly plays against someone who does this...

How about a longer answer? I'm sure people with these minis still play them... anybody?

Thanks for the link to the Dark Harlequins... I'd seen that before and forgotten about it. Seems like a great idea...

Maybe, I'd doubt it.

If Adepticon doesn't allow it, I'd deem it not useable for pick-up gaming. Since I cannot think of anything more "Offical", and GW doesn't have a list up for Grand Tournament 2009 of rules/legal armies, I would go by that list.

You could use OOP Harlequins as 'Mimes' that count as Storm Guardians. OOP Shadowseers could work as Warlocks.

Be sure to offset this with new Harlequins for elites.

A Solitaire or Great Harlequin could work as Yriel or Autarch.

Converted Shadowseer could work as Eldrad or a Farseer.

As mentioned earlier, the Harlequin faceplates can give a Harlequin flair to any vehicle, wraithlord or jetbike.

For the Avatar, a cool conversion can be found here; http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=300005&pIndex=2&aId=9900001&start=3

Its still possible to field a themed Harlie army.
The core should be given by three Harlie squads.
Troops could either be filled by Jetbike squadrons (the old Harlie codex from Gav Thorpe allowed Harlie Jetbikes as FA), Dire Avengers or Pathfinders (serving as Mimes; remember Mimes had Move Through Cover).
Heavy support could be given from Wraithlords (there was a Harlie version) or Dark Reapers (as Death Jesters).
Finally, a Farseer can count as Shadowseer and Autarch on jetbike as Greater Harlequin.
There is no correspondence with a Solitaire; this guy is absolutely amazing on the charge.
