In the UK there are parades and laying of wreaths at memorials. There is a two minutes silence at 11 o'clock. Many people also observe the silence on the anniversary of 11th November.

Veterans day is kind of a sham though, I'll give you that. Of course, so are most American holidays.

We had it today (Tuesday!) and it was fine. School had an assembly and we all listened to a Vietnam veteran who talked about his personal experience and conducted the minute's silence.
