I heard of one guy who thought he had a tooth-ache, so he went to see a dentist. His 'tooth-ache' was actually a nail in his brain that he didn't even know was there. Now I'm wondering something, how do you not notice a nail piercing your skull at about 60 mph?

you don't feel it going in, the brain could have been hit right where the pain receptor was, although it's a bit weird to say the least, if he couldn't find it after brushing his hair or something...

When I was working in Emergency Department it was the lawnmower injuries that were usually the worst- they just shred whatever they run over and make any reconstruction look bad.

Did have one girl come in after a nail went through the sole of her shoe and into her foot whilst jogging. She said apart from pain at the injury site the only other concern was that her knee had gone numb. I didn't have the heart to tell her that numbness from nerve injuries goes down the limb, not up and left it to one of the other doctors to break the news to her. Lots of laughter all round by the staff.
