Okay, as I said in the title, I'm a First time 40k player, and I play Sace marines. Bear in mind I'm still in training a my local GW store, but I thought I'd have a go at an Army list. Basically, I wanted an army that could be fairly flexible, as in if I need help in a particualr spot on the field, or several spots, I could get some reinforcments to them. So, without further ado,

HQ
Captain (Uses Captain Sicarius' stats) - 200
Master of the Forge - 100 (This might change, depending on upgrades and such.)

5 w/ Thunder Hammers and Stormshields

4X Tactical Squad each w/Flamer, Rocket Launcher, Sergeants all w/ Bolt pistols, chainswords, and teleport homers.

If you haven't already guessed, it's the terminators and Dreadnoguhts that will be used as the main force to back up anyone who needs it. The two squads in rhinos and the assault squads will be my main force too contest objectives far from home. The other Tac squads will take the middle-ish ones, and the Scouts will defend my home objective. Of course, If they get into trouble, I can always send a squad of Terminators and/or a Dreadnought to help them out.

C&C welcome. But I'd like it if you think something needs changing if you didn't scream at me I've only just started remember, and haven't actually played a full game with only me controling the army. When we learn ow to play, we normally use a squad or two. Oh, and from that list above, I have two Tac squads, a Termintor Squad, and the Dreadnought with the multimelta. I got AoBR. I'm not using the Captain becuse I want to convert a diffrent one. Thanks.

I think that you need to collapse squads. If you like having 5 man squads roaming around that's cool, but for games where the objective is kill points you are putting an awful lot of gimmies on the field.

Collapse the Assault squad into 1 squad and the ranged termies as well. You also seem to have quite a few teleport homers for 2 squads, I'd drop a couple of them and get another rhino or DP.

Finally I'd get at least 1 tac squad melta weapons. You only really have your dreads as tank hunters, if you go up against a mech heavy army you're can bet that they will be priority number 1 as the rest of your army cannot do to much to heavily armored tanks.

Just some food for thought.

Okay. Yeah, I think I might do that with the Assault squads. I'd like to leave the Termie's as they are, but for games with kill points, I think I'll combine them. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing before I posted it. I think I'll get ride of the teleport locators in the drop pods. And I think I'll give one of the squads in the Rhinos a meltagun. Thanks

there is no disadvantage to merging the terminator squad. almost any 10 man SM squad can be split into combat squads, your terminators included. currently you are effectively givng your opponent one free kill point.

I don't fully get the Combat Squads rule. If I merge the Terminator squads together as one, and then split them, does that still count as one squad or two?

When you deploy them they will count as 2, but for taking up Force Org Slots they will only take up 1.

M'kay, thanks for clearing it up. Yeah, I might do that. I should probably go and finish my squad I'm working on... heh.
