How deadly is a team of three wraithlords, ten wraithguards, ten harlie (with shadowseer and troupe master) and an avatar in the same list? Would they compliment one another? What else could be added to the list to match these units?

Wraithlord equipped with bright lance and missile launchers x2, and the other equipped with star cannon and missile launcher.

What other army or list could spell bad news for this starting set up?

This list of course would need a couple of warlocks to prevent wraithsight.

The list lacks mobility. And precisely where are the troops to take and hold objectives?

Wraithguard lack shooting range.

I think it is a poor list and any decent one would rip it to shreds.

Versus what? Against a bolter spam or lasgun spam gunline army with nothing but lots of S4 weapons and the odd missile launcher it'd tear them to shreds, but if you run against horde orks or raider assault terminators or something you'll get punk'd hard.

"And precisely where are the troops to take and hold objectives?"

If make a unit of wraithguard 10 strong, they can be made a troop choice. But that's still only 1 choice though.

If you are using the avatar, you would need a farseer (most likely Elrad) and some guardians for some long range firepower (scatter lasers). The Avatar keeps them fearless.

But how many points?

Its a typical hammer & anvil army. Wraithguard provides an decent anvil while Harlies and Avatar comprise the hammer. I'd add some Guardian Defenders or Dire Avengers to walk in the Avatar's fearless bubble. Some fast unit able to intercept enemy units threatening your front ranks would be nice, like Shining Spears or Warp Spiders or more Harlies.

Ditto everything that Wuestenfux said, especially about the Guardians/Avnegers to both flesh out your anti-infantry fire and capitalize on the Avatar's Inspiring Presence ability. With the 10 Wraithguard, this is a very hard core to kill off.

I would recommend the Spears over the Spiders for a fast addition, but even Guardian jetbikes could add a more manueverable element. Any of these add to your 3+ save troops, further diluting enemy fire from, say, battlecannons or missile launchers.

And I strongly disagree with Orc Town Grot. This is a standard advancing foot army, and I've seen it do very well (well, generally without the Wraithguard unit, but whatever).

Farseer would be a much better choice over the avatar because you can put him with the wraithguard and make him really hard to kill, not to mention all the wraithsight rolls you'll have to make. The fearless aura on the avatar would be completely wasted on this list too.

No, the Fearless ability is great if shared with even two units of Guardians. You can't make it the lynchpin of your whole army by taking a crudload of units that rely upon it, though.

A Warlock with the Spiritseer upgrade is fine for keeping all the walking-dead types in line, and a Farseer is less useful than another MC to split the enemy fire out. Unless you're palying aginst Eldar or Tau that is, in which case you willr eally need those Fortuned armor saves...
