Its widely accepted that discussions evolve. Points are brought up which bring up other points which bring up other points et-cetera. This is not a bad thing, an evolving disussion means that it isn't a stagnant discussion. This brings me to the moderation of this board. Mods love to lock topics that go off topic. Thats not a reason to lock a topic. Change the name, split it into a new one, or start a new topic based on the branched discussion. Don't just lock it. Thats just lazy modderation, especially when the new discussion is in no way offensive or outside of the board section it belongs in.

I suppose it has to be "evolution of threads" as there is precious little proof of "intelligent" design in many of them (additional posts as well as opening ones).
If you have an issue with the moderation of threads, I'd suggest you take it up with them, though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I'd rather not have to CC a PM to a dozen people, I'm also interested in peoples reaction and opinions to the topic.
Also, in before lock.

I'm pretty sure the plot points of Star Wars is something more for the Off-Topic board than Dakka Discussions.

Lol someone is a little annoyed at the closing of the Virtues of Star Wars/Warhammer online thread.
Though however I do indeed agree with you, I feel they should not have closed the thread. Either split it or let it lie. And always give a warning. (Unless of course it is blatantly offensive, such as a thread about Liea is a whore or some such thing. Then it deserves no mercy.)
I vouch for a petition.

Heh. Unlocked!
The reason we lock threads that go off-topic is for the organization of the board. Threads are the base organizational structure for this board, and if you stray off-topic on a thread you lose the ability to find that information reliably; instead you must stumble upon it.
What we do recommend is that if a thread develops an interesting tangent is that you create a new thread on the topic. You can reference/link to/quote the spawning thread for any context or background, but now it's much easier for users to see this new topic and comment upon it.
Traditionally Dakka has always had a certain amount of user "moderation" and we continue that tradition today. Creating the new thread is the responsibility of the interested poster, not of a moderator. It is, after all, the posters' conversation.
I'm sorry that you feel that we're lazy. If you are unhappy here, there are many other fine Warhammer 40k messageboards available to you.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Nah, it's that they did it to three threads I was part of within a short period of time. Just one isn't a big deal.

No way, I might end up in Warseer if I did that. I'll stay in the vault thank you very much.
