Tactics
The infantry deploy dismounted and do what they are equipped to do, then lay low and try not to die. The Chimeras do what they are equipped to do, most likely taking heavy casualties while doing so. Meanwhile the 2 MBTs try and soak up enough lascannon fire to keep the Chimeras a bit safer as well as adding their firepower to take out those power armoured opponents that will prove somehat difficult for even the multilasers.

The HQs provide leadership and a potentially devastating counter-assault role to keep the limited infantry in a condition to capture objectives. The sentinels should be good for some added AT work and an extrmely limited counter-assault role should it be needed.

That is the plan on paper at least.

Background framework:
I don't have the specifics such as names down yet, but I can give you a rough idea of what I am thinking of for the background. The regiment is an ad-hoc unit formed during the 3rd Armageddon War between a shattered Steel Legion and remnants of an Ash Waste Nomad tribe. Because who doesn't like a little inter regimental rivalry... or it could just be a cliche.

The commanding officer is an Ash Waste Nomad, though he is the grandson of a Helsreach Hiver who fought in the 2nd War. After the 2nd War he fled into the Ash Wastes and was eventually rescued and taken in by the Nomads. This army will represent the 403rd just after the 3rd Armageddon campaign ended, which allowed them to be rearmed and refit to Steel Legion standards. Any earlier and I would have to model them a bit more ragtag than I think my skills are up to, this is my first modelling project after all.

Any critiques on either the army list or the background are appreciated.

well why did you take Rough Riders and Xeno Fighter's and you didnt include them?

Xeno Fighters isn't worth it.

You need COD cause it's free.

Take two side heavy bolters on the russes and heavy stubber if you can to have Anti Infantry

You main HQ shouldn't have grenade launchers. Take Flamers on them.(anti Horde)

If you want leadership then buy ID and give it to HQ's
Maybe invest in meltas in HQ's.

thats the idea I like the fluff and the idea let me know how it works.
