So I have mentioned before in other posts, I am working on my First SM army. I am reading the Horus Heresy so I have a huge stiffy for the Luna wolves.

Heres my plan.....

Paint scheme is going to be light greyish sort of green grey( Original Colors were silver Grey, they then became the sons of horus and were sort of Sea Foam Green.)

So the color is intended to be a quick light coat of grey over the old green as if the individual marine did a quick and hatefilled job painting back to their original color.

Reason: My fluff is that they are surviving Sons of Horus (loyal to the Emperor) post heresy. They believe that The true warmaster died on Davin and that it was a possessed that went on to lead the Heresy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_Gods

Long story short they follow the memory of the true warmaster and went back to being Bad F&*king ass Luna Wolves not those light green sass mouths.

I have for the most part finished a Land Raider and I am really pleased with the way it turned out. Minor details to finish and I will post pictures to see what you guys think.

But intention of the post is to see what you guys think of the paint scheme/fluff explanation?

THANKS!

Try painting a test model and post pics of it here. It helps a lot when you want to get feed back on a paint scheme.

So its seemed to work out so far. The only problem is that the color is hard to photograph because the silver comes through in the light.

thats some pretty good work, but for me the colour scheme doesnt work....its too bitty, or haphazzard...it doesnt sit right. i would either limit the two-tone effect or go for a more deliberate half or quatered paint job.

but then i have been wrong before...or rather i was right...once

Phil- I appreciate the notes, but could you be more specific?

Do you mean the amount of black/grey?

I would lose the Black entirely, Luna Wolves and Sons of Horus didn't include black, unless there were terminators and then it was all black and high gloss.

Also I know you are doing this for fun but keep in mind that the LW or SOH would not have had access to Land Raider Crusaders.

ok ill try my best.

effectively you have a light grey tank with two black wings of armour (if you see what i mean). while i get that idea i think the doors and sponsons need to be black too. by painting those grey you lose the solid look of the 'black wings', and it looks like your picking out bits for no real reason. also the red lines add nothing at all to the model just another bit of detail picked out and by doing that you break up the solid black colour.

as i say, paint everything 'inside' your black wings black and pick out the edges in extreme highlight (black templer style) and i think it will transform your tank from being 'bitty' to looking solid and mean....like a LR should be.
no blue bit, red bits, bronze/gold bits. black wings over a light grey....guns in boltgun, washed black & highlighted, red sensor lense and maybe gold/silver aquilla.
this is what I think, feel free to keep it how YOU like. its your army, your time and your taste. but i know when i post pics i like to hear views and listen/ignore them how i like.
good luck
much love bro

Oblivion - i think he wants the army as a post heresy, luna wolves army,
Spoiler:
ie see Iacton Qruze making it to Lunar in FOTE
still nice job, i do agree though that the black needs to be toned down or gone entirely, unless you want this to be a Justarian Crusader?

These models are extremely busy. You have brass/gold and metal parts combined with red/purple and green lenses. As others have said, remove the black entirely, use just one color for your weapons (boltgun metal with highlights) and I would suggest using one color for your lenses as well.

Coming along quite well though.

Have you tried using washes? Using a black wash over the entire model will pull everything together. Does not need to be a black wash but that is a universal color.

If you have not used washes... Experiment and you will be amazed.

Some humble advice, wash your metal areas (the M Melta). It looks pretty one dimensional. A good recipe for metal is;

Your normal metal color (Boltgun, Vallejo gunmetal gray, whatever)
Citadel Black wash
Drybrush a 'brighter' metal (Chainmail, whatever)

Or the brass sections;

Brazen brass
Citadel Black wash
Drybrush Brazen brass/chainmail mix

Cheers
