Okay... first off, I'll freely admit I'm feeling a bit snarky. However, I just came across ANOTHER post like this. Now I was tempted to put this in Modeling & Painting, but I know it'd just get moved here. I did feel I shouldn't discredit one poster's forum with my rant, so I hope at least that much is appreciated, especially since there seems to be several posters now doing the following.

There's two things I go to the Modeling & Painting Forum for:

1-Modeling
2-Painting

Why are so many of these posts starting with Fluff?! If we have a question, we'll ask you, and at that point feel free to defend your position as to why you painted your Blood Angels cirulean blue. Until that point, all I want is to see your pretty models, and be able to comment, critique and compliment. Maybe I'll ask why they're blue, and maybe I won't. Until then, just post your pics!

It's all part of the creative process.

There is nothing wrong with putting a preface to a model, presentation of a concept and the piece in one thread is much more tidy than two or three different threads about the same piece.

A lot of pieces get comments about how 'it doesn't line up with the fluff', so prefacing any project with a background helps ground the viewer some with where the concept comes from.

I've found that adding background to a project log enhances the overall viewing experience exponentially.

I like seeing the fluff (short summary anyways) as it help me understand where the painter is coming from and what they're trying to achieve.

I guess I'd rather see the pics first, story later, much like "men's magazines." At the very least I'd like the presentation at the same time. If someone's proposing their fluff for "approval" then it should go in the "fluff" Forums. Then, once the details have been weeded out, present the modeled product in the Modeling & Painting Forums. Otherwise, we end up with a piece of fluff in the Modeling forum with 10-15 posts after it saying, "Sounds great, can't wait to see the models!" I don't mind waiting an hour or two for pics, but if they're not up in that time frame, you'd better have suffered a power outage, or just been like me and couldn't figure out how to re-size your pics Though at least leave some evidence that an attempt was made to put them up.

Does this make sense, or am I totally ready for the looney bin and nap time?

I think just like explaining how you want your army to fight helps with critiques in the Army List forum, providing an explanation for how you want the army to "Feel" allows for content based, and not just technical, feedback on how the painting is going.

Sure, some of the longer fluff bits get a bit, shall we say, self involved. On the whole though, having more information of how the OP views his army is better for giving feedback on how he's accomplished that.

If your point is that your tired of reading Grade D fan fic style fluff to laboriously explain why the second company of the Emperor's Repomen have red trim on their shoulder pads and not green.... well your problem is with hack writing, and not fluff. I agree that in general an armies fluff is only interesting to the person playing it. I still think it's too easy to skip to get really upset about.

Ah, I think I see what you're saying.

You don't like fluff that teases and then doesn't show the models.

That makes sense, but even there I think there is some value to get feedback on how to even do up a prototype. Maybe we should lobby for a tag to add to threads that don't have actual pics. Instead of "Emperor's Repomen" it would say "Emperor's Repomen [Proposed]"

Because for many, the fluff is the driving force behind the models.

If you're not interested, just skip over it and look at the pictures.

Thank you for putting what I meant into fewer words than I used! That's pretty much exactly what I had in mind.

I get it now. In that case, I kind of agree. Fluff like this should go in the Projects folder. I find it annoying too when you open a promising thread and there isn't anything there.

Well, I'm in my third year of law school. Putting a person's jumbled thoughts and wants into a cogent argument is sort of what I'm training to do.

I like the X-files too! That's one of my favourite episodes.

I don't really read other people's fluff, it doesn't interest me at all. I don't care why your army is blue, only how those miniatures look like.

I completely agree. I've heard way too many times how a "spazmarines chapter huurrr" is from some god that mated with another god and their offspring mated with the emperor and the farts during coitus evolved into super uber spazmarines chapter huuurr.. and they're bigger and better and faster and stronger than the primarchs, and their farts don't stink and they are immune to physical pain and have 3 eyes and 4 arms and 3 legs.. (oh wait, they get the third one cut off, it's not really a leg just a huge......... yeah..) and they all were dreadnaught grade powerarmor giving them a 2+ invulnerable save and their leadership is 11 and.... (huge breath here). and their str is 6 and toughness is 7 and they get 4 attacks per model in base to base with them (extra arms you know) ..... yeah taht stuff makes me puke.

A woman will argue with a mirror.....
