If I take a drop pod as a space marine tac squad transport can I instead deploy the 10 member tac squad and then drop an empty pod? While not very fluffy I'm not finding any rules preventing this.

Not really. Gussy up the Drop Pod with a Locater Beacon and you can establish beach-heads for further landings on the board. Give the Drop Pod a Deathwind Launcher, and land it somewhere where it can act as a sentry gun.

Which FAQ? I'm not seeing it.

Edit: Nevermind, found it on the Dark Angels FAQ

Except that you have to declare which units are in transports when you set them in Reserves...

And you don't get a chance to blow up a pod before the unit inside disembarks anyway.

Can you deploy a squad on the table during deployment, and put its transport (rhino/razorback/drop pod) into reserve?

Yes you can. They are simply another unit.

Can a 10-man Tact Squad in a drop pod combat squad during deployement instead of when landing.

Ex. In dawn of war deployement, can my 2 troop units take the form of a combat squad made from unit A, and a combat squad made from unit B, while the rest of unit A&B arrive with the drop pod they were bought with?

Have a good giggedy, thank you!

No, the player has to decide whether the squads will break into combat squads when they disembark the Drop Pod. You can't send half the squad in with the Drop Pod and deploy the other half normally.
